Reds | Cincy switches up lineup Monday

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 16:03:15 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart, who is hitting .303 on the season, was moved up to the second spot in the batting order Monday, April 27, with 2B Brandon Phillips dropping to sixth. 1B Joey Votto is now hitting third, and 3B Todd Frazier is in the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: The most notable move is for Cozart ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) jumping up to the top of the lineup. While facing a tough matchup in the improving Jimmy Nelson of the Milwaukee Brewers Monday night, the two-hole boosts Cozart's FantasyScore value at shortstop.

Reds | Joey Votto swinging hot stick

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 10:47:40 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto entered the day Tuesday, April 14, third in the National League with eight RBI, and his slash line sat at .345/.424/.759. Manager Bryan Price said Votto looks like the Votto of old before he dealt with injuries. "I noticed he just seems to be more athletic," Price said. "It could be he's just feeling better. If not 100%, very close to it. He's been very agile, moving around the bag and running the bases. He looks like an even younger version of himself."

Fantasy Tip: Votto ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) had two more hits Tuesday night to raise his early-season average to .375. He looks to be back to full health and primed for a big 2015 season. Even against Chicago Cubs lefty starter Travis Wood Wednesday, Votto makes for a strong FantasyScore play while he's in the midst of a hot streak.

Reds | Joey Votto belts a pair

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 20:49:04 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto hit a pair of home runs in a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Friday, April 10, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored, four RBIs and a walk.

Fantasy Tip: The former MVP appears to be fully recovered from last season's injuries, and he is hitting .412 with three homers and eight RBIs through four games. Votto ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is a must-start at FantasyScore at his current price.

Reds | Joey Votto hits first homer

Thu, 09 Apr 2015 14:21:49 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto hit his first home run of the season and first since May 10 of last year in a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday, April 9. Votto was 5-for-14 with four RBI in the three-game series that the Reds swept.

Fantasy Tip: Votto ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) is off to a good start in 2015 as he looks to bounce back from injuries that sapped his power in 2014. A homer to dead center in the team's third game is a good sign for his owners.

Reds | Joey Votto feels normal this spring

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 12:05:37 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps, knee), who missed 100 games last year with knee and quadriceps injuries, said he feels normal this spring even after being held out for the first four spring games.

Fantasy Tip: This is more of a better safe than sorry approach for Votto, whose power numbers can be explosive when he is healthy. For now, Votto should be drafted no earlier than the middle of most fantasy leagues as he recovers from numerous injuries.

Reds | Joey Votto to play Saturday

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 07:44:36 -0800

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) will make his spring debut Saturday, March 7.

Fantasy Tip: Votto's power numbers have fallen off the map. Some of it can be attributed to health, but some has been due to his approach at the plate. He's still among the top 10 at the position, but he has fallen to the second half of that pack.

Reds | Joey Votto close to spring action

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 11:02:21 -0800

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) is close to making his Cactus League debut, according to manager Bryan Price. Votto missed 100 games in 2014 with a distal strain of his left quadriceps, and he hasn't played in the team's first three spring games. Votto was more focused on strengthening his leg in the offseason, which has put him behind schedule in camp.

Fantasy Tip: Votto could very well make or break your 2015 fantasy baseball team. The main concern is whether Votto can bring back his power after hitting only six home runs in an injury-riddled 2014 season. At his current devalued price, Votto could be a steal if he proves to be back to full health and returns to the 20-homer mark.

Reds | Joey Votto feels great

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 15:08:03 -0800

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) will not start the team's spring opener Tuesday, March 3, but he's been feeling much better this spring after playing in just 62 games due to a distal strain of his left quadriceps in 2014. He is slightly behind the others in terms of baseball shape in camp, but he hasn't shown any limitations with his leg. "I feel really good. I was surprised at how good I feel this early," Votto said. "I'm trending towards starting to play in games, hopefully here in the not too distant future."

Fantasy Tip: The main concern with Votto is if he'll be able to bring back his power after clubbing only six home runs in 2014. If he's fully healthy, there's a good chance he will be a great value pick in fantasy baseball drafts, and he should continue to be an excellent asset in leagues that count on-base percentage.

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto (quadriceps) has been monitored by the Reds strength and conditioning coach all offseason, and manager Bryan Price said the last report he received on Votto was "very, very good." "The strength was outstanding, the stamina was good and the agility," Price said. "Right now, we're looking to hit the ground running when Joey gets to Goodyear and being able to see with our own eyes where he's at. I'm confident that he's going to be ready to go."
