Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Tuesday, April 15, RP Matt Lindstrom remains the closer despite two blown save opportunities. "He's in there right now," Ventura said. "It's always been that way, where you can make a change at any time. It's tough, the job is tough. As of right now, he'd probably be going out there today."

The Chicago White Sox signed free-agent RP Frank Francisco (Mets) to an undisclosed deal Monday, April 14.
Fantasy Tip: Francisco brings some closing experience to a team that may be looking for an option to replace Matt Lindstrom in the ninth-inning role soon. It's unclear if Francisco will need to prove himself in the minors first before getting a shot at a late-inning role in the majors first. Saves-desperate owners in AL leagues might need to snatch him up quickly.

The Chicago White Sox placed RP Nate Jones (gluteus) on the 15-day disabled list Friday, April 4, and recalled RP Jacob Petricka from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Jones was charged with four runs without recording an out in his two appearances this year. Petricka was 1-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 19 1/3 innings with the White Sox in 2013.
Fantasy Tip: About the only reason to keep Jones on your roster now is if you're in an AL-only league or you want to use up one of your DL spots. Matt Lindstrom has a much longer leash now, it seems, after blowing his first save opp yesterday.

Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said he won't rush to make a change in the back end of the bullpen after RP Matt Lindstrom blew the save Thursday, April 3, and with RP Nate Jones (gluteus) ailing. "I think it's a pretty small sample (size)," Ventura said after the defeat. "If you look around the league, there's been a lot of stuff happening with bullpens, so I'm not going to sit here and overreact to it. Would you like it to be better? Yeah, sure. But I'm going to give the Twins credit. They battled and they're the ones that put up the runs. They had a good offensive plan today and they did well." Both Jones and Lindstrom dealt with injuries this spring, with Lindstrom fighting an oblique strain that limited him to just three spring outings.
Fantasy Tip: Lindstrom will remain the closer, for now. Jones can be let go in mixed leagues, but he could easily take the role away from Lindstrom down the road when he's healthy and gets his feet under him.

Chicago White Sox RP Matt Lindstrom allowed two runs on two hits in one inning Thursday, April 3, to blow his first save of the season.
Fantasy Tip: It is not good that Lindstrom was not able to pick up his first save of the season, but he likely will keep his job for now. Nate Jones also struggled in his appearance during the game and probably will not be an option for the role at this time.

Chicago White Sox RP Nate Jones (gluteus) is dealing with a strained left gluteus muscle that he dealt with in spring training, and he'll be re-evaluated Friday, April 4.
Fantasy Tip: Jones didn't do himself any favors in Thursday's outing, giving up two runs without recording an out, but his injury probably played a part. Matt Lindstrom also blew a save, but as long as Jones is dealing with this injury, Lindstrom will have a longer leash. You can afford to cut bait on Jones in standard leagues, for now, but in the long run, he represents the best ninth-inning option for the White Sox.

Chicago White Sox RP Matt Lindstrom worked around a hit in one scoreless inning Monday, March 31, against the Minnesota Twins for his first save of the season. He threw 11 of his 12 pitches for strikes.
Fantasy Tip: Lindstrom was named the closer over Nate Jones, sending fantasy owners scrambling for the waiver wire. Lindstrom looked dominant in this appearance, and he is a must-have in all AL-only fantasy leagues and some mixed formats.

Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura said RP Matt Lindstrom will be the team's closer to start the season.
Fantasy Tip: Nate Jones was believed to be Ventura's choice for the ninth inning all spring, but that turns out not to be the case. Run to your waiver wire and add Lindstrom immediately, especially if you own Jones. Lindstrom fastball has some giddy-up, but he isn't a typical dominant relief pitcher that inhabits the ninth inning, so Jones may receive his chance before long.

Chicago White Sox RP Matt Lindstrom (oblique) threw a side session Wednesday, March 19, and is on track to make his spring debut Friday, March 21. Lindstrom is expected to be ready by opening day and was a candidate for the closer's job before suffering his left oblique strain.
