Blue Jays | Michael Bourn signs with Blue Jays

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 07:56:57 -0700

Free-agent OF Michael Bourn (Braves) signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Age has caught up to the speedy Bourn, who has stolen 27 bases and been caught 13 times in the last two years. He's worth a flyer in AL-only leagues, but he's really one-dimensional, and that dimension is narrowing.

Diamondbacks | Arizona passing on Michael Bourn

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 17:42:16 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Arizona Diamondbacks are unlikely to sign free-agent OF Michael Bourn (Braves) in the immediate future, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: There is a possibility that the D-Backs could reconsider signing the 33-year-old down the line. For now, Arizona will rely on the combination of Socrates Brito and Chris Owings to split time in center field.

Diamondbacks | Arizona considering Michael Bourn

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 17:06:47 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart said the team has had internal discussions about free-agent OF Michael Bourn (Braves) and added that his representatives have been contacted.

Fantasy Tip: INF/OF Chris Owings and OF Socrates Brito are currently splitting time in center field and a Bourn signing could lead to Brito being optioned to the minors in order to receive regular playing time. Bourn would be a huge upgrade from a defensive standpoint but the D-Backs are uncertain if he would be an improvement on offense as well. If signed, the 33-year-old veteran should be viewed as a source of stolen bases and runs for owners in NL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Braves | Michael Bourn released by Atlanta

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 16:23:36 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Michael Bourn was released Tuesday, April 12, after the Braves designated him for assignment at the end of spring training.

Fantasy Tip: The veteran speedster could still latch on with another club, but the 33-year-old outfielder doesn't have much left to offer fantasy owners, and he'll likely be a bench option if he surfaces elsewhere. Leave him on all waiver wires for now.

Braves | Four ATL veterans battling for two spots

Sun, 27 Mar 2016 09:29:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OFs Emilio Bonifacio, Michael Bourn, Jeff Francoeur and Nick Swisher appear to be battling for two reserve outfield spots on the opening day roster.

Fantasy Tip: Bonifacio, Bourn and Swisher are prime candidates to be traded or released, with Atlanta likely to be on the hook for the bulk of their salaries if they are moved. Francoeur has played well this spring but could be optioned to Class AAA Gwinnett if he agrees to remain with the organization. None of these players are likely to receive enough playing time to make them worth drafting in any fantasy format.

Braves | Atlanta shopping outfielders

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 10:30:26 -0800

The Atlanta Braves are aggressively shopping OFs Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and Cameron Maybin at the general manager meetings this week, according to a rival official. However, Braves GM John Coppolella denies that the Braves are considering moving Maybin.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin had by far the best year of any Braves outfielder in 2015, but he tailed off considerably in the second half. Bourn and Swisher are platoon bats that only have value in deep mixed fantasy leagues. Maybin could be even more intriguing to fantasy owners if he's traded to a better situation.

Braves | Cameron Maybin out of Tuesday lineup

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 14:15:49 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29, against the Washington Nationals. OF Michael Bourn is hitting eighth against Nationals SP Tanner Roark.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) appears to be getting a normal night off so the Braves can try different lineups. Bourn ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is hitting .467 in the last week, so if you're looking to save some cap space he may make a solid addition.

Braves | Cameron Maybin sitting vs. Marlins

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 08:34:45 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 27. OF Michael Bourn is starting in center field and batting eighth against Miami Marlins SP Tom Koehler Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Maybin ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats Sunday. He has gone 5-for-11 over his past three games and stands to have a solid final week of the season for his patient owners. Bourn ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Sunday, as he owns a .535 OPS through 128 plate appearances since joining Atlanta.

Braves | Nick Swisher playing left field

Sat, 26 Sep 2015 13:10:02 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Nick Swisher will bat fifth and play left field against Miami Marlins SP Justin Nicolino Saturday, Sept. 26. OF Michael Bourn is not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Swisher ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is 1-for-15 over the past week and hitless in three career at-bats versus Nicolino, so he should be avoided in FantasyScore.
