Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Ryan Roberts took ground balls prior to the game Friday, April 20, to work on his footwork and throws to first base. He has struggled with his throws across the diamond over the past week. Manager Kirk Gibson noticed an issue with a different arm slot Roberts has been using on his throws to first. He has two errors through 11 games, and the team isn't worried about him.

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said he is not worried about 3B Ryan Roberts' defensive struggles because he has been working on improving it during practice and the problems can be fixed.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Chris B. Young is hitting second in the team's opening day lineup Friday, April 6, after he hadn't hit No. 2 this spring at all and just once last season. Young has 274 at-bats in the second spot in his career. 1B Paul Goldschmidt is hitting fifth, 2B Aaron Hill is batting eighth and 3B Ryan Roberts is hitting seventh.

While Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson would like to work IF Geoff Blum into the mix at third base, Gibson reiterated 3B Ryan Roberts would see the majority of starts at third.

Arizona Diamondbacks 3B Geoff Blum and 1B Lyle Overbay are on the bubble when it comes to winning a bench spot this spring. INF Willie Bloomquist, SS Stephen Drew (ankle), 1B Paul Goldschmidt, 2B Aaron Hill, INF John McDonald and 3B Ryan Roberts are locks. It all depends on if Drew will be ready for opening day whether another spot will open up.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are heavy on utility infielders heading into 2012 with IFs John McDonald, Willie Bloomquist and Geoff Blum. McDonald could start at shortstop if SS Stephen Drew (ankle) is not ready for the start of the season. Bloomquist could serve as the fourth outfielder and share time in left field with OF Gerardo Parra. Blum would likely complement 3B Ryan Roberts at third base and 1B Paul Goldschmidt at first.

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Aaron Hill switched agents, moving from the Beverly Hills Sports Council to agent Greg Genske. The D-Backs are still trying to decide if they will exercise Hill's $8 million option for next season. The club would rather restructure a new deal with Hill and his new agent. 3B Ryan Roberts could move to second base if Hill does not return.
