Elliot Johnson Fantasy Baseball News, Notes, Rumors and Statistics
The latest Elliot Johnson MLB and fantasy baseball news
Tue, 21 May 2013 17:03:25 -0700 Kansas City Royals SS Alcides Escobar was out of the lineup in favor of 2B Elliot Johnson Tuesday, May 21. He is down to .249 after getting only 10 hits in his last 62 at-bats. "He's just in a funk right now," manager Ned Yost said. "So we'll give him a day, and maybe two, just to take it easy. He might be in there (Wednesday). I don't know. He just needs to catch his breath a little bit." Fantasy Tip: Escobar is the team's starting shortstop, and Johnson doesn't have much chance of stealing his full-time job. For now, sit Escobar on your bench if you have a better option for shortstop duties.
Thu, 16 May 2013 14:24:08 -0700 Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is riding hot streaks from OF Jarrod Dyson (ankle) and 2B Elliot Johnson right now, and he indicated that he doesn't mean he's going with platoon setups at those positions. "I could play (Jeff) Francoeur (on Friday) against a right-hander," Yost said. "Then it's not a platoon. I'm going day-to-day right now. Dyson is swinging the bat well, so he's playing more." Dyson's availability is in question for this weekend, though, after he sprained his right ankle Wednesday, May 15. Dyson has started five of the team's last eight games and brings speed to their lineup. Johnson is the team's primary utility player in the infield, but he's started eight of the last 14 games with 2B Chris Getz hitting in a 4-for-47 (.193) slump. Fantasy Tip: Dyson's playing time streak could run out due to his injury, depending on the severity, but he's worth owning while he's playing for his speed skills in deep leagues. Johnson is worth a pick-up in AL-only leagues while he's swinging a hot bat, too.
Wed, 08 May 2013 15:07:52 -0700 Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is considering changing up his lineup in the near future that would possibly include moving OF Alex Gordon from leadoff to third in the lineup and increased playing time for OF Jarrod Dyson and 2B Elliot Johnson. Dyson started in center field Wednesday, May 8, and OF Lorenzo Cain shifted to right in place of struggling OF Jeff Francoeur. Johnson started for the second day over 2B Chris Getz. Gordon is hitting only .180 (9-for-50) when leading off an inning compared to .490 (24-for-49) with runners on base. Yost is considering Dyson, Cain or SS Alcides Escobar for options at leadoff. Moving Gordon to third in the lineup would allow 1B Billy Butler to return to the cleanup spot. Fantasy Tip: This could have varying degrees of fantasy implications. For one, this will give Gordon more opportunities for RBIs, and it also should put Dyson on the radar of deep mixed gamers if Francoeur continues to lose out. Yost believes Eric Hosmer eventually deserves to be the three hitter, but he's holding off until he picks it up at the plate.
Tue, 07 May 2013 15:17:01 -0700 Kansas City Royals 2B Chris Getz is hitting only .216 and is 4-for-37 since hitting a home run April 16. 2B Elliot Johnson started over Getz Tuesday, May 7. "I'm going to start playing Elliot to keep him in the mix," manager Ned Yost said. "Mainly at second. We'll see how it goes. I'll go day to day with it. I want to get Getzie going a little more. He's not swinging the bat like I know he can." 3B Miguel Tejada also started over 3B Mike Moustakas, who is hitting .198 overall and .160 against lefties, Tuesday. Fantasy Tip: Johnson is only worth considering for a roster spot in deep AL-only universes since Getz still seems to be Yost's primary second baseman in the long run.
Wed, 01 May 2013 14:36:27 -0700 Kansas City Royals 2B Chris Getz (allergies) is battling allergies and is sitting in favor of SS Elliot Johnson Wednesday, May 1.
Fri, 05 Apr 2013 12:50:40 -0700 Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost chose to sit 1B Billy Butler in favor of 1B Eric Hosmer Friday, April 5, mostly because the team will face left-handed pitchers for the rest of the weekend. "If I sit Hos today," Yost said, "he doesn't (start) for three days. If a pitcher has never faced a hitter, the advantage kind of goes to the pitcher. Kendrick has never faced Billy or Hos." OF Jeff Francoeur is also 9-for-22 in his career against Philadelphia Phillies SP Kyle Kendrick. Yost is reluctant to put Hosmer in the outfield, so Francoeur will likely start all three games against the Phils. INFs Miguel Tejada and Elliot Johnson might also see playing time this weekend. Fantasy Tip: You'll want to get Butler back in your lineups this weekend in daily leagues. The opposite goes for Hosmer if you can swap guys in and out on a daily basis.
Fri, 29 Mar 2013 12:39:20 -0700 Kansas City Royals C George Kottaras has won the backup catching job over C Brett Hayes. Kottaras had the advantage because he gives the team another left-handed bat off the bench. Hayes accepted an assignment to Triple-A Omaha. INFs Miguel Tejada and Elliot Johnson have also made the team, and KC still needs to place SP Danny Duffy (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list.
Mon, 04 Mar 2013 12:54:18 -0800 Kansas City Royals 2B Elliot Johnson (knee) will return to the lineup Tuesday, March 5, after dealing with a bruised left knee.
Thu, 28 Feb 2013 16:46:28 -0800 Kansas City Royals SS Elliot Johnson (knee) is likely to remain out another day or two to recover from a bruised left knee.
Wed, 27 Feb 2013 16:33:17 -0800 Kansas City Royals SS Elliot Johnson (knee) bruised his left knee during a double play Wednesday, Feb. 27, but manager Ned Yost said Johnson will be fine.
