Fri, 30 May 2014 10:56:57 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays are more likely to focus on "rental" pitchers in a trade than Chicago Cubs SP Jeff Samardzija. Kansas City Royals SP James Shields is seen as the preference for the Blue Jays should he hit the trade market. The Jays would also likely have interest in Cleveland Indians SP Justin Masterson, Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano and Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel. The Jays haven't been involved in talks for Samardzija, but sources say the Cubs would want SP Drew Hutchison plus either SPs Aaron Sanchez or Marcus Stroman in return for Samardzija.

Certainly spring training will help validate that opinion," Moore said, adding, "We expect him to be one of our 12 pitchers when we break camp unless something unforeseen happens." Ps Luke Hochevar, Wade Davis, Danny Duffy and Chris Dwyer are all a notch behind Ventura heading into spring training.
