White Sox | James Shields tagged with loss

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 23:26:04 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields gave up two runs and seven hits in six innings of work Thursday, July 21, in a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Shields fell to 3-12 overall.

Fantasy Tip: Shields has posted five earned runs and eight strikeouts in over 21 innings, but the end result is three straight losses in his last three starts. That's a bit of hard luck. This has not been a great season for Shields, who should be kept sidelined. Shields' fantasy value hasn't climbed to the point yet where players should pick him up.

White Sox | Big Game James heating up

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 22:02:49 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields is scheduled to start Thursday, July 21, against the Detroit Tigers. He is 2-2 with a 1.91 ERA over his past four outings.

Fantasy Tip: It has been a forgettable season for Shields, and he started off his Chicago career very poorly. However, he is starting to piece it together and he has re-emerged as a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues, deeper mixed formats and DFS play.

White Sox | Is James Shields finding his groove?

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:53:46 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields owns a 1.91 ERA with 12 strikeouts through 28 1/3 innings over his past four starts.

Fantasy Tip: Shields had a disastrous run to start his tenure with the White Sox (21.81 ERA through three outings), but he's rebounded of late. And while fantasy owners would still like to see a few more punchouts, at least Shields can be considered a viable option now.

White Sox | James Shields turning it around?

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 21:34:42 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields allowed one earned run, two hits and two walks in eight innings in a complete game loss Saturday, July 16, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. It was his fourth consecutive quality start after a rough start.

Fantasy Tip: Shields is 1-2 in three starts in the month of July, but he has a 2.08 ERA in 21 2/3 innings. He has chopped his ERA from 11.07 to 6.43 during the span, re-emerging as a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues, deeper mixed formats and as a mid-tier play in DFS.

White Sox | James Shields finally steps up

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 21:07:39 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields allowed one earned run while scattering eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in a win Wednesday, June 29, against the Minnesota Twins. He threw 61 of his 93 pitches for strikes in his first quality start and first win since coming over from the San Diego Padres in a trade.

Fantasy Tip: Shields was awful in his first four outings, but he was impressive in this one. Still, he was facing the last-place Twins so don't get too excited about Shields' fantasy appeal just yet. Let him string together a few quality starts before trusting him again for fantasy purposes.

White Sox | James Shields finally decent

Thu, 23 Jun 2016 18:32:19 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields had his first decent outing with his new team Thursday, June 23, opposite the Boston Red Sox. The veteran righty was able to last five innings, yielding three runs on five hits and four walks. He also racked up three strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Normally, this might not be classified as "decent" but given Shields' significant struggles since joining the White Sox, this has to be seen as a big-time positive development for the 34-year-old. After all, Shields had given up a whopping 31 earned runs over his first four starts in Chicago before today's encouraging outing versus one of the best offenses in baseball. It's still hard to trust him right now, but at least he's headed back in the right direction.

White Sox | James Shields slaughtered again

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 19:56:35 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields allowed eight earned runs, seven hits, three walks and just two strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings in a loss Saturday, June 18, against the Cleveland Indians. He threw just 30 of his 53 pitches for strikes while slipping to 0-2 with a 21.81 ERA since coming over from the San Diego Padres in a trade.

Fantasy Tip: 'Big Game' James has been a complete and utter disappoint since joining the Pale Hose, and he cannot be trusted by even fantasy owners in the deepest of AL-only leagues right now. Perhaps if he can string together a couple of quality starts he will re-emerge as a useful option, but right now there are no signs of a turnaround.

White Sox | James Shields crushed again

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 22:52:36 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields allowed seven runs - six earned - and nine hits with four walks over five innings in a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers Monday, June 13.

Fantasy Tip: Shields has been atrocious since coming over from the San Diego Padres, but he actually settled down after allowing six runs in the first two frames to save the bullpen somewhat. Still, he cannot be trusted in all but the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues until he starts to pitch more consistently.

White Sox | James Shields roughed up in debut

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 23:22:12 -0700

Chicago White Sox SP James Shields was pounded for seven earned runs, eight hits and two walks while recording just six outs in his team debut Wednesday, June 8, against the Washington Nationals. He needed 84 pitches to make it through two innings, throwing just 44 for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Big Game James certainly didn't endear himself to his new teammates and fans, serving up three home runs. He'll look to get on track in his next scheduled start against the Detroit Tigers Monday. He'll be a two-start pitcher for fantasy owners in weekly formats, so he isn't a bad start despite the poor results in this one.

Padres | Luis Perdomo rocked Sunday

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 05:32:16 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Luis Perdomo allowed six runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings, struck out three and walked one, in a 10-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, June 5. Perdomo was an emergency replacement for SP James Shields, who was dealt to the Chicago White Sox the day before.

Fantasy Tip: Perdomo may be headed back to the minors here soon, as manager Andy Green told the media "in an ideal world, he's learning in Class AA right now." Or maybe the Padres give him a big-league education, who knows? Either way, he's not ready for prime time and certainly not ready for your fantasy lineup.
