Sat, 18 Apr 2015 05:10:19 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) played nine games in a rehab game with Single-A Hagerstown Friday, April 17, and could be activated from the 15-day disabled list Sunday, April 19. Span is scheduled to work out with the team Saturday, April 18.

Nationals | Denard Span scheduled to play all nine

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 13:38:26 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) is scheduled to play all nine innings with Single-A Hagerstown, according to manager Matt Williams.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is expected to return in early May, and he'll be a solid FantasyScore option at his price point. However, it would be wise to allow him to play a few games to dust off some rust before utilizing him in daily contests. Expect him to be eased into action, too, with Michael Taylor ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) slowly being regulated to a bench role. Taylor's fleeting value is nearing an end.

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) will play five innings Sunday, April 12, in Viera, Fla., and then begin a rehab assignment with a minor league affiliate.

Fantasy Tip: Monitor Span's recovery and rehab, as he is worth adding and stashing in the majority formats, especially with his return nearing. Expect Michael Taylor's ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) value to fall off the cliff soon, but he'll remain the everyday center fielder with Span out.

Nationals | Denard Span close to rehab games

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 14:48:02 -0700

Span will now head out for a rehab assignment in minor league games. He'll play through the weekend and then be re-evaluated. Span received seven or eight at-bats each day.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) could be ready at the end of April, but a better guess would be early May. In the meantime, Michael Taylor ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) will man center field in D.C., and he isn't a bad low-priced FantasyScore play in the right matchups.

Nationals | Denard Span ready in three weeks?

Mon, 06 Apr 2015 10:10:34 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) said he is feeling healthy and will take live batting practice Tuesday, April 7, but he needs to resume playing in games. Span predicted that he'll be ready in around three weeks.

Fantasy Tip: You can forget about using Span ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) for at least a month on FantasyScore. But when he's back, he'll be a useful commodity at the top of one of baseball's best lineups. In Span's absence, Michael Taylor ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a sneaky outfield option for lineups, and his matchup opening day against Bartolo Colon is intriguing.

OF Michael Taylor will be the Nats' regular center fielder while Span is sidelined.

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) underwent surgery to repair a hernia Monday, March 9, and will miss four to six weeks. OF Michael A. Taylor will receive the bulk of the repetitions in center field.

Fantasy Tip: Span could miss the first month of the season. He hit .302 with 94 runs scored and a career-high 31 steals. Now 31, Span is an OF5 devoid of much upside.
