Nationals | Denard Span doesn't have back spasms

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 19:47:12 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) is dealing with back soreness, but manager Matt Williams said Thursday, Aug. 27, that Span isn't dealing with the back spasms that put him on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Williams also said that Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) could deal with soreness the rest of the year, so make sure you check on his status daily before committing to him at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Denard Span out vs. Friars

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 13:41:24 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) is not in the starting lineup because he woke up sore Thursday, Aug. 27. OF Michael Taylor is starting in center field and batting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is expected to receive some games off down the stretch, and Taylor ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) projects to spell him in center field. While Span's seasonal value has upside, the nagging injury is a concern, and he isn't a must-own player in the majority of 12-team leagues. Taylor should be reserved for deep mixed formats, and you might want to look for better value than him at FantasyScore Thursday.

Nationals | Denard Span rusty in return

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 22:37:42 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) returned to the lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the San Diego Padres, but he was hitless in four at-bats with a walk. Manager Matt Williams said Span will work his way back slowly before playing on a daily basis.

Fantasy Tip: It was Span's ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) first action since July 6, so he was bound to be a little rusty. Give him a game or two to knock off the rust before trusting him again in FantasyScore.

Nationals | Denard Span activated, starting

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 13:23:59 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) was activated from the disabled list and is in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 25. He returns to the leadoff spot against San Diego Padres SP James Shields.

Fantasy Tip: Span's ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) return means the Nats have a full and healthy lineup with all of their stud starters for the first time all season. Span was performing very well at leadoff before his injury, and there's no reason to believe he won't continue to be profitable at FantasyScore. However, there's reason to remain skeptical in his first game back against Padres ace Shields.

Nationals | Denard Span eyeing a return Tuesday

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 14:39:15 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) said he expects to be activated from the disabled list and play against the San Diego Padres Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has been limited to 237 at-bats this season, and he hasn't played since Monday, July 6. FantasyScore plays will want to give him a few games to shake off the rust, and seasonal owners shouldn't rule out benching him until he shows signs of life at the plate. Span's activation should also significantly cut into Michael Taylor's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) seasonal value.

Nationals | Denard Span continues rehab

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 14:10:43 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) is expected to play seven innings for Class AA Harrisburg Friday, Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) was a consistent producer for the Nats at leadoff before his injury, and he should still be owned in all fantasy formats. His return may not be far off, either, meaning Michael Taylor's ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) fantasy value will be coming to an end soon.

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 09:47:24 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) will start his rehab assignment with Class A Hagerstown Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Fantasy Tip: Continue stashing Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) in all formats. He was hitting .304 (72-for-237) with five home runs, 22 RBI and 11 stolen bases before his injury, and he should return to the leadoff spot when he's ready.

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 17:48:13 -0700

Fantasy Tip: The team is expected to gradually increase Span's ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) activities, as long as no further setbacks occur. Michael Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should continue to see regular playing time in his absence.

Sat, 08 Aug 2015 20:09:00 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) had a "setback" in his rehab, manager Matt Williams said Saturday, Aug. 8.

Fantasy Tip: While Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) remains sidelined, Michael Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should continue to start and provide decent upside for the price at FantasyScore.

Nationals | Denard Span does baseball activities

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 17:21:06 -0700

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (back) took outdoor batting practice and shagged fly balls Wednesday, Aug. 5. Due to a lack of conditioning, he felt fatigued by the third round of batting practice but said he wasn't experiencing any back or abdominal problems. He could perform the same drills Thursday, Aug. 6, assuming that there are no setbacks.

Fantasy Tip: If all goes well, Span ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) could take live batting practice Friday, Aug. 7, and he could begin a minor league rehab assignment next week. OF Michael Taylor ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) will return to a reserve role once Span is activated from the disabled list.
