Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) underwent surgery to repair a hernia Monday, March 9, and will miss four to six weeks. OF Michael A. Taylor will receive the bulk of the repetitions in center field.
Fantasy Tip: Span could miss the first month of the season. He hit .302 with 94 runs scored and a career-high 31 steals. Now 31, Span is an OF5 devoid of much upside. As for Taylor, he's a decent late-round flyer. He hit .304 with 22 homers, 61 RBIs and 34 steals, mostly at Double-A Harrisburg last season.

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span (hernia) has been cleared to be "full-go" in spring workouts, according to manager Matt Williams.
Fantasy Tip: Span had an excellent season in 2014, hitting .304 with a career-high 184 hits and 31 stolen bases. He's looking to carry that momentum into 2015, and his hernia shouldn't stand in the way. Expect to see some regression, but he remains a solid target in drafts for his stolen bases and runs on one of the best teams in the National League.

Washington Nationals OF Denard Span slumped to begin the National League Division Series, and then he noticed a problem before going 2-for-4 in Game 3 Monday, Oct. 6. Span had been staying back on pitches and going the other way most of the season, but he was jumping at pitches in the first two games of the series. "You got to stay in there," Span said. "In my career, I've hit lefties better than righties because I simplify things. I wait back. Against righties, I see the ball so good. Against Peavy and Hudson, I was getting too quick. I see the ball good, and I'm pulling off the ball. I got to try to take a deep breath, settle down and get back to doing what I was doing."
