|Giants | Denard Span to lead off|
Fri, 12 Feb 2016 11:18:30 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Span hit .301 with 11 steals in just 246 at-bats last season and could be a cheap source for 20 steals as a fifth outfielder.

|Giants | Denard Span to serve as leadoff hitter|
Fri, 08 Jan 2016 17:09:44 -0800
Fantasy Tip: As a result of signing Span, the Giants are no longer expected to be in the running for other free-agent outfielders such as Yoenis Cespedes (Mets) and Justin Upton (Padres). Span should be viewed as a late-round flier for deep mixed fantasy leagues because of his ability to score runs, steal bases and hit for a high average. Pagan has had difficulty remaining healthy in recent seasons and has seen a decline in his speed and power numbers, so he shouldn't be targeted outside of NL-only and deep universal leagues.

|Giants | Denard Span already at full health|
Fri, 08 Jan 2016 13:38:52 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Span played just 61 games in 2015, so having him ready to go already is encouraging for the veteran playing a full season in 2016. He can help in runs, stolen bases and batting average, but he is still likely best viewed as a late-round option in mixed leagues.

|Giants | San Francisco signs Denard Span|
Thu, 07 Jan 2016 14:50:11 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Entering his age-32 season, Span is likely looking at the twilight of his best fantasy years, and he also was limited to just 61 games in 2015. Span has a .301 batting average over the past two seasons, and he still boasts target-worthy speed, but he isn't anything more than a late-round grab in the majority of mixed leagues.

|Giants | San Francisco close to adding Denard Span|
Thu, 07 Jan 2016 14:42:46 -0800
Fantasy Tip: Span projects as a low-end outfielder in the majority of leagues with much more value in cavernous mixed and NL-only formats, if he does sign with San Francisco.

|Nationals | Denard Span unlikely to Nats|
Thu, 07 Jan 2016 09:51:04 -0800
Free-agent OF Denard Span (Nationals) is unlikely to re-sign with the Washington Nationals, according to general manager Mike Rizzo. Rizzo appears to be satisfied with OF Michael Taylor playing center field.
Fantasy Tip: Span is a much better single-universe outfielder than mixed leaguer, but he'll have fringe value. Taylor showed flashes last year, and he's right around Span's threshold as a depth outfielder with some upside in mixed leagues.

|Orioles | Baltimore hesitant on Denard Span|
Thu, 31 Dec 2015 10:26:00 -0800
The Baltimore Orioles are interested in free-agent OF Denard Span (Nationals), but they aren't interested in offering him anything over one year. Span would prefer a multi-year deal, but the Orioles have concerns about his health. Span will be 32 in February and owns a .352 on-base percentage in his career and is 62-for-75 in stolen base attempts in the last three years. Span's agent, Scott Boras, predicts that his client will sign in the "near future."
Fantasy Tip: Span was having a fine season with Washington last year until he was injured. If he can stay healthy over a full season, he's a great source of runs and can boost your club's on-base percentage. Power isn't a factor, so moving to a hitter-friendly park like Camden Yards wouldn't really boost his fantasy value all that much. Look at Span as a cheap source of runs later in fantasy drafts next spring.

|Royals | KC won't re-sign Alex Gordon|
Wed, 23 Dec 2015 11:18:24 -0800
Free-agent OF Alex Gordon (Royals) told the Kansas City Royals that as things currently stand, they have "no chance" of re-signing him, according to sources. The Royals are now looking around at other free-agent outfielders such as Denard Span (Nationals), Austin Jackson (Cubs) and Gerardo Parra (Orioles). The Royals are believed have made a four-year offer to Gordon in the "$12-13 million" per year range. Gordon is believed to be seeking a deal closer to $20 million a season and is drawing interest from the Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, San Francisco Giants and others.
Fantasy Tip: Gordon won't give the Royals a hometown discount this time around. He's a well-balanced player that can give a team a huge boost in outfield defense, as well. He doesn't do anything that particularly stands out, but he has great contact and on-base skills that can provide nice outfield depth for fantasy owners in the middle rounds.

|Mets | New York prefers Denard Span|
Mon, 21 Dec 2015 11:02:17 -0800
The New York Mets prefer signing free-agent OF Denard Span (Nationals) over free-agent OFs Will Venable (Rangers), Alejandro De Aza (Giants) or Gerardo Parra (Orioles), but Span is coming off hip surgery and is looking for a multi-year deal. Parra's defense has slipped in recent years and might be looking for too rich of a contract. The Mets continue to look for a left-handed hitting center fielder who could platoon with OF Juan Lagares.
Fantasy Tip: Span was having a fine season for the Nationals last year before injury struck, as he hit .301 (74-for-275) with 11 stolen bases and 38 runs in 61 games. Span is mainly useful for his contact-oriented approach, on-base skills and runs, but part-time duty with New York would limit his fantasy upside and relegate him mainly to deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
