Former San Francisco Giants OF Pat Burrell may help the Giants in camp for one or two weeks this spring. Manager Bruce Bochy said that he and general manager Brian Sabean talked to Burrell this winter about a post-retirement role in the organization, which could include a spring training visit.

San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean lashed out at Florida Marlins OF Scott Cousins for barreling into C Buster Posey (ankle) on the play that ended Posey's season. "Why not be hard nosed?" Sabean said. "If I never hear from Cousins again or he never plays another game in the big leagues, I think we'll all be happy. He chose to be a hero in my mind, and if that's his flash of fame, that's as good as it's going to get, pal. We'll have a long memory. Believe me, we've talked to (former catcher Mike) Matheny about how this game works. You can't be that out-and-out overly aggressive. I'll put it as politically as I can state it: There's no love lost and there shouldn't be."

San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy have hinted that the team would not consider trading away one of their starting pitchers, even in exchange for more offense, according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. "It would be hard messing around with pitching. It's what we're built on," Bochy said. "It would be easier with more depth, but who has that? We like our five starters and feel all the guys will give us a chance to win. I'm not looking to make a change. These are my 25 guys."
