Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said SS Stephen Drew (ankle) is progressing in his rehab, but the team isn't sure if he'll be ready for Opening Day. "He looks good," Towers said. "We've got video on him on a treadmill, which is a positive sign. We don't know, (but) (trainer) Ken (Crenshaw) seems to think he'll be ready, if not to start the season then shortly after. If not, we've got protection there, with Johnny Mac (John McDonald) and Willie (Bloomquist)."

The Arizona Diamondbacks have extended the contracts of most of the members of manager Kirk Gibson's coaching staff for an additional year. First base coach Eric Young, third base coach Matt Williams, bench coach Alan Trammell, bullpen coach Glenn Sherlock and pitching coach Charles Nagy had their contracts extended through the 2013 season. Hitting coach Don Baylor has not yet received an extension because he is managing a winter ball team in Venezuela and the Diamondbacks have been unable to contact him. However, general manager Kevin Towers said the team will extend Baylor's contract as soon as possible.

Arizona Diamondbacks managing partner Ken Kendrick said that general manager Kevin Towers will be able to work with an increased payroll next season. The team won the National League West with a $55 million payroll in 2011.

The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to contract extensions for manager Kirk Gibson and general manager Kevin Towers Thursday, Nov. 3. Both Gibson and Towers were awarded three-year deals with team options for two additional years. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have hired Kevin Towers as their new general manager, SI.com's Jon Heyman reports. The team has asked interim GM Jerry Dipoto to stay on in another role. Towers received a two-year deal plus options.

Former general manager Kevin Towers is having a second interview for the Arizona Diamondbacks' general manager position Tuesday, Sept. 21, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi. The two sides have yet to discuss money.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are planning to name a general manager in the next several days, according to FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal. The job will come down to either former general manager Kevin Towers or interim general manager Jerry Dipoto.

The Arizona Diamondbacks interviewed five candidates for their general manager position Wednesday, Sept. 15, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. The candidates interviewed were former general manager Kevin Towers, interim general manager Jerry Dipoto, Los Angeles Dodgers assistant general manager Logan White, Dodgers assistant general manager De Jon Watson and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim scouting director Eddie Bane. The team wanted to talk with New York Yankees vice president of scouting Damon Oppenheimer, but were denied permission. The Diamondbacks could have a new general manager in place by as early as next week.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will interview former general manager Kevin Towers for their general manager position Tuesday, Sept. 14, according to AOLFanHouse's Tom Krasovic. Towers appears to be the favorite to land the job. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim scouting director Eddie Bane and Los Angeles Dodgers assistant general manager Logan White will also be interviewed Tuesday.
