Diamondbacks | Could face dilemma at short

Wed, 25 Sep 2013 00:03:11 -0700

The emergence of SS Chris Owings may cause problems for the Arizona Diamondbacks because SS prospect Didi Gregorius is at the position, and the team doesn't want to platoon if it can help it. "You'd like to see them get more at-bats, but if it becomes a platoon situation where one's facing lefties and one's facing righties, who's got the hot hand, you can probably make it work," general manager Kevin Towers said. "It's probably no different than what we've had to do with our outfielders, juggling them around a little bit."

Wed, 03 Jul 2013 11:08:45 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said the team is not very interested in the starting pitchers available in the trade market. "I would say some of the pitchers that are out there, we're not overly crazy about," Towers said. "We like them some and would like to have them, but the price that people are asking for them, I don't see the value there. I'd rather continue to give opportunities to our young guys."

Diamondbacks | Chris Johnson likely to stay at third

Sun, 23 Sep 2012 23:23:18 -0700

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers indicated 3B Chris D. Johnson has a good chance of staying at the position in 2013. "He's performed very, very well," Towers said. "I mean, he's hit for power. He's been a little bit streaky, but when he's hot, he's hot. To have that kind of power bat that deep in the lineup, not many teams in the National League are that deep to have somebody hitting in the 7-hole that has a chance to hit it out of any part of the ballpark."

If not, we've got protection there, with Johnny Mac (John McDonald) and Willie (Bloomquist)."
