Mike Preston, of The Baltimore Sun, reports former Baltimore Ravens DE Michael McCrary will be a volunteer coach with the team at various times before the 2010 season. He will likely work with defensive linemen and outside linebackers on their pass-rushing techniques.

Brent Jones, of The Baltimore Sun, reports former Baltimore Ravens DL Michael McCrary is expected to receive $33 million in damages for a fraudulent insurance claim involving a condo project in New Orleans as ordered by Judge Paul E. Albert Wednesday, June 25, according to Kenneth B. Frank, McCrary's lawyer. $15 million, which is one of the highest judgments on record, is in punitive damages, $16 million in compensatory damages and another $2 million came from prejudgment interest. McCrary, Stuart C. "Neil" Fisher and Edwards Giannasca bought a 45-story office building, which was going to be changed into condominiums called Crescent City Estates. Fisher and Giannasca, along with other entities, collected around $12 million in insurance money from the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina but told McCrary that the claim was denied. The partners sold the building and only gave McCrary $2 million of the $3.5 million he originally invested.

The Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens DE Michael McCrary, a 10-year veteran and two-time Pro Bowler, will announce his retirement Thursday, Aug. 21. During the off-season, McCrary had continued to work out in the hope that his oft-injured knees could respond enough so that he could play one more season. But in the wake of his retirement, there has been talk that he could instead serve on the coaching staff.

Updating previous reports, the Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens are expected to make an announcement concerning DE Michael McCrary (knee). Although team officials declined to comment on whether McCrary would retire or be released, they confirmed that the team is not willing to pay his $3 million salary this season. Whether McCrary retires or is released, the Ravens would gain $3 million in cap room. But the Ravens probably will not spend any of that money on the current free-agent market before training camp.

Mike Preston, of the Baltimore Sun, reports that with training camp set to open July 28, the Baltimore Ravens are still waiting on a decision by Ravens DL Michael McCrary, whether he intends to retire or join the team for his 11th season. A decision must be reached soon because the Ravens will begin negotiations with their first-round draft picks, DE Terrell Suggs and QB Kyle Boller, and could use some salary cap room. One scenario has the team holding McCrary out until the middle of the season until his knees are fully healthy. Another scenario has the Ravens cutting McCrary, and then re-signing him to a lower salary.

Updating previous reports, the Baltimore Sun reports Baltimore Ravens DL Michael McCrary will be placed on the team's retired-reserve list this week. This will allow the Ravens to spread his salary cap hit over two seasons. The team will save $3 million in 2003 and will take a $2.4 million cap hit in 2004. The $2.4 million is the remaining prorated portion of the $3.6 million signing bonus he received before the 2002 season.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens DE Michael McCrary has not officially announced his retirement yet, but head coach Brian Billick said the move could come soon. Billick also said he’s already talked to McCrary about coming to training camp as an assistant coach.
