Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said the team had shown interest in 1B Justin Morneau before he signed with the Colorado Rockies. Melvin added that the trade market for first basemen was very thin this offseason, hinting that he had had discussions with the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers but that they were unwilling to make moves.

The Milwaukee Brewers agreed to contact extensions for general manager Doug Melvin and manager Ron Roenicke Tuesday, May 8. Melvin will be extended through the 2015 season, while Roenicke's new deal takes him through the 2014 season but includes a team option for the 2015 season. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said that he is not actively shopping any of his players and is not in a rush to unload players before the trading deadline, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt. "I'm not actively shopping anyone," said Melvin. "I'm always available to talk. I've made some phone calls. If I think we have matches with other clubs, I'll talk to them."

General manager Doug Melvin says he's going to look at less expensive alternatives in C prospects Jonathan Lucroy, Angel Salome and George Kottaras, who recently was claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Updating previous reports, Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin announced that manager Ken Macha would be returning in 2010 for the second year of his two-year contract, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In addition, Melvin decided to add an option to Macha's contract for the 2011 season. "He didn't ask for (the option)," said Melvin. "He said, 'It doesn't matter to me. I don't do this job for security. I do it to win ball games.' The option tells him I do support him in his role as manager." Melvin also invited back bench coach Willie Randolph, hitting coach Dale Sveum, third base coach Brad Fischer and first base coach Ed Sedar.
