Tara Sullivan, of the North Jersey Media Group, reports New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) had surgery on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to reconstruct the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Dixon, who, at an earlier date, hinted he might have to retire, will be out for another four to five months.

Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) spoke openly Monday, Nov. 3, about the possibility of having to retire because of the failure of his knee to respond to off-season surgery. Dixon, who missed all of training camp, tried to practice last week but had to stop after two plays. The Giants have until Nov. 19 to decide whether or not to place Dixon on the physically unable to perform list for the remainder of the season or to activate him.

Updating previous reports, Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) practice on Wednesday, Oct. 29, for the first time this season. Dixon, who has been on the physically unable to perform list, only lasted a couple plays, however. "He lasted about two plays, and then we had to pull him out. He's been working out with the trainers, making all the runs and moves and cuts and it felt fine. Then he got out there at practice and about two plays into it his knee kind of clicked and caught and he had to come out." The team now has three weeks to decide whether to add Dixon to the active roster or place him on injured reserve.

KFFL has learned New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee), who has been on the physically unable to perform/reserve list all season, is eligible to practice this week but probably will hold off because there was swelling in his right knee last week. Dixon has a three-week window to begin practicing, and then the team has a three-week window to decide whether or not to activate him. Dixon might make a difference if healthy, but it appears that still is a big if.

If he needs additional surgery, he could miss the season. If not, he could be put on the physically unable to perform/reserve list, making him eligible to be activated after six games.

Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) is in coach Jim Fassel's doghouse. Dixon angered Fassel on Saturday, Aug. 9, when he missed a scheduled treatment for his injured knee and a team meeting. Fassel then called Dixon into his office and made it very clear he was unhappy with the wide receiver's conduct. "I was very upset and I had a brief meeting with him and I fined him," Fassel said. "He had a little different meeting with me than a normal guy would. I'm sure it was not a pleasant meeting for him."

According to Tara Sullivan, of the Bergen Record, New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) is in danger of losing the No. 3 receiver position to WR Tim Carter. While Dixon continues nursing his surgically repaired knee, Carter continues to impress coaches in training camp. "Ron better come back quick and he better come back to play. It's hard to get better and compete from the sidelines, no question," head coach Jim Fassel said. Dixon said he is focusing solely on getting healthy.

"I'm still not running well," said Dixon, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in November and June. "I don't think (I'll participate), unless they just tell me to go run," he said. "I'll do it but it wouldn't be healthy."

The AP reports New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. Dixon is listed as questionable on the Giants' injury report. "He practiced part of the day and that is all I wanted him to do," Coach Jim Fassel said. "I think he did well. Hopefully, he'll practice a little bit more tomorrow. I want him to take about half the reps and get back into the flow of things."

Dixon has missed the last three games and five-of-the-past-six games with a sprained knee. "The doctors told me he had an outside chance last week and he didn't make it," Jim Fassel said yesterday, "but they said those chances are going to go up dramatically in a week, so there's a reasonably good chance we can have him this week."

"It's a little bit in a limbo stage," Fassel said. "If it was five or six weeks, then I might go ahead. If they told me one week, then I wouldn't. But three weeks is right on the cusp of where the playoffs are."

Jay Glazer reports for SportsLine.com New York Giants WR Ron Dixon (knee) actually has a torn posterior cruciate ligament, not just a sprained knee. Giants VP of public relations Pat Hanlon confirmed Dixon was suffering from such a problem. Dixon might be able to play again this year, but if he does, his agility or quickness may be somewhat hindered.

Giants.com reports the New York Giants have listed WR Ron Dixon (knee) as questionable for this week. Earlier it appeared he would be OUT for sure. "Dixon's knee is actually a bit better after the MRI," coach Jim Fassel said. "And Ron's a guy who has played with injury. I think it's a little bit too early to call him back this week or take a chance on that. But he's got a better chance of maybe coming around sooner than we thought, hopefully."
