The Oakland Athletics have no plans to deal any of their starting pitchers to obtain a shortstop. "In years we've been successful, it's because we've had good young pitchers. Small markets that have had success -- Tampa, Minnesota -- developed their own pitching," Athletics general manager Billy Beane said.

Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane will be at the Oscars in person Feb. 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Actor Brad Pitt was nominated for an Academy Award as best actor for his portrayal of Beane in the film Moneyball. "I'm going," Beane said. "It will be fun. I'm excited for Brad, and I know how much time and effort he put into it. Of course, absolutely I'm rooting for him. Not me. It's got nothing to do with me. It's all about Brad. He's a great guy, and I do want him to win for his sake, not for me. He's the one who put himself on the line."

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim owner Arte Moreno said he is prepared to hire a new general manager that doesn't have much experience in the position. The team does not have a list of candidates yet, and they haven't asked for permission to interview anyone. It's unlikely they will bid for Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane or New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.

Tampa Bay Rays executive vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane, White Sox assistant general manager Rick Hahn and Boston Red Sox vice president of player personnel Ben Cherington are all being rumored as options.

The rumors are already swirling that the Chicago Cubs will make a run at Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein as their next general manager. Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane is already out of the running; he will remain in Oakland next season. There is no guarantee that Red Sox brass will grant permission to interview Epstein, but the Cubs are expected to make a run at him.
