Thu, 15 Feb 2007 01:49:16 -0800

The Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim general manager Bill Stoneman has no regrets about letting OF Juan Rivera (leg) play in the outfield during winter ball. "In Juan's case, you're asking me to second-guess," Stoneman said. "If he came out of winter ball healthy, we're probably happy he did it. The guys who don't reach the fatigue thresholds are guys you usually want to get more at-bats and innings pitched."

Angels | Kotchman on fast track to recovery

Thu, 11 Jan 2007 01:45:02 -0800

The Los Angeles Times reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Casey Kotchman (mono), who missed all but 29 games last season while recovering from the symptoms of mononucleosis, had played in 30 Puerto Rican winter league games through Friday, batting .261 with three home runs, six doubles and 11 runs batted in, 12 walks and 12 strikeouts in 111 at-bats. "He feels good physically," Angels general manager Bill Stoneman said. "We thought, and he thought, it was important for him not to come to spring training having done nothing since last year. This should be a big boost for him physically and for his confidence."

The Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Bartolo Colon (shoulder) has successfully completed the first two phases of his rehabilitation from a rotator cuff tear and is scheduled to begin throwing in Arizona this week. "As competitive as Bart is, we won't know when he'll be ready until he starts throwing. But everyone is saying he's done real well in physical therapy, he's lost some weight and is in good shape. We have to let his rehab run its course," Angels general manager Bill Stoneman said.

Thu, 19 Jan 2006 13:50:41 -0800

The LA Times' Mike DiGiovanna reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Bartolo Colon (shoulder) began throwing last week for the first time since injuring his shoulder in the ALDS last season. He's scheduled to throw off a mound Feb. 1, which is two weeks before spring training. "He's fine, there is no pain, and what's good is he's not ahead of the program," Angels GM Bill Stoneman said. "These guys are athletes they always want to test themselves - but he's following the program. He's throwing on flat ground, at 120 feet, and he'll lengthen that out until he gets on a mound."

Angels | Yet More on Colon

Thu, 13 Oct 2005 19:34:24 -0700

Updating a continuing story, Mark Saxon, of The Orange County Register, reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Bartolo Colon (shoulder) does not appear to have damage to his rotator cuff or labrum, which is fairly good news. "It's positive in the sense that we're not wheeling him to the hospital for surgery right now," said Angels general manager Bill Stoneman. There is still a slim chance that Colon could be added to the World Series roster (due Oct. 21) if his shoulder responds to treatment. However, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he wouldn't even consider using Colon if there was a chance of long-term injury.

Tue, 11 Oct 2005 23:06:24 -0700

Updating a previous item, The Chicago Tribune reports Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim bench coach Joe Maddon, who has been rumored as a managerial candidate for the last three seasons, said he hadn't been contacted by Tampa Bay. "It has to come through general manager Bill Stoneman for something like this," Maddon said. "I believe in going through the proper channels. Nothing has been thrown my way, and when Bill knows, he'll tell me. It's pure conjecture. I don't put a lot of faith in that kind of stuff."
