Sat, 31 Mar 2012 12:07:29 -0700 The Boston Red Sox are unlikely to receive a different player from the Chicago Cubs as compensation for former general manager Theo Epstein, even though P Christopher Carpenter (elbow) is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his right elbow to remove a bone spur. The Red Sox had complete access to Carpenter's medical records and he passed two physicals - one from the Cubs and one from the Red Sox - before the deal was finalized.
