According to Hal McCoy of The Dayton Daily News, Cincinnati Reds special advisor Jim Beattie has resigned his post following the addition of Wayne Krivsky as general manager. Beattie was brought in at the beginning of February by new Reds owner Bob Castellini.

Updating previous items, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer's Jon Paul Morosi reports the Seattle Mariners haven't yet decided whether to replace former special assistant Pat Gillick, who left to become the general manager for the Philadelphia Phillies. The club already has two other special assistants, John Boles and Dan Evans. The club's budget for the next fiscal year likely won't contain money for an additional position, although Mariners Chief Operating Officer Chuck Armstrong could authorize discretionary funds to pay for a replacement. If it were decided to fill the position, a likely candidate would be Baltimore Orioles consultant Jim Beattie.
