Sun, 19 Feb 2012 21:41:46 -0800 Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan or assistant general manager Rob Antony will provide injury updates this season instead of manager Ron Gardenhire, per a new team policy this season. Last year, head trainer Rick McWane gave daily injury updates before regular season games. "There are a few reasons (for the change), but No. 1, that's the way I've always done it," Ryan said. "Two, I'd just as soon have Gardy manage the ballclub and not worry about giving his medical (report) every day. Three, Rob and I will be on almost every trip and certainly at home we'll do it. Four, I don't want any confusion in communication description and that's the reasons."

Wed, 16 Dec 2009 01:41:31 -0800 The Detroit News reports Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland, along with fellow veteran managers Tony La Russa (Cardinals), Mike Scioscia (Angels) and Joe Torre (Dodgers), has been named to a committee charged with recommending ways to improve Major League Baseball. Commissioner Bud Selig appointed the members to the panel, which also includes Baltimore Orioles president Andy MacPhail, Cleveland Indians general manager Mark Shapiro, Atlanta Braves president John Schuerzholz, former Minnesota Twins GM Terry Ryan, Hall of Famer Frank Robinson, political columnist George Will and the owners for four teams. Among the issues the panel is expected to address: instant replay, scheduling and pace of the game.

The Seattle Mariners have been interested in possibly adding Ryan as their new general manager for 2009.

Morneau has been interested in reopening talks for a multi-year deal with the club and asked his agent to set up the meeting in hopes something can be completed. Ryan has refused to comment on the contract talks, while Morneau has refused to get into any specifics about a possible deal.
