Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan was diagnosed with cancer and won't be with the team for the start of spring training. A lump in his neck was found during the team's annual physicals, and a subsequent biopsy showed squamous cell carcinoma. More tests showed the cancer was confined to his neck and had not spread. Ryan is optimistic that his condition is treatable.

Minnesota Twins top-prospect SP Alex Meyer (Shoulder) is expected to pitch competitively before the end of the season, according to his agent Scott Boras. Boras said he spoke with general manager Terry Ryan about Meyer. "I spoke to Terry about Alex," Boras said at Citi Field. "They're doing the appropriate things, examining him, resting him. We have not heard anything that suggests that he wouldn't be back (by season's end)."
