He said Friday, Nov. 4, he was tempted by the idea of teaming up with manager Buck Showalter, but didn't want to abandon new Red Sox GM Ben Cherington.

The Associated Press reports the Boston Red Sox hired former Kansas City Royals general manager Allard Baird Tuesday, Oct. 31, as an assistant to GM Theo Epstein. He will serve as a special assignment scout, oversee the pro scouting department and advise Epstein, continuing a role he began in July after being fired by the Royals.
