Tigers | Four players eligible for free agency

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez, C Gerald Laird, CL Jose Valverde and OF Delmon Young are eligible for free agency, and general manager Dave Dombrowski plans to target Sanchez and Laird for re-signing. Two other players, SS Jhonny Peralta and RP Octavio Dotel, have club options the team is likely to pick up.

Tigers | GM, manager receive extensions

The Detroit Tigers extended the contracts of general manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland Monday, Aug. 8. Dombrowski agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2015 season, and Leyland reached an agreement that extends him through the 2012 season. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said that the club may attempt to add more offensive firepower before the beginning of the season, according to George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press. "Most of our positional spots are set, in the sense that if you had to open the season, I'd feel comfortable in that regard," he said. "But if there was an area we're going to address, it would be an offensive perspective. I don't know if anything will happen or not." Dombrowski added that the team is not currently looking to add pitching.

Tigers | GM confident Willis will pitch this season

The Detroit Free Press' Jon Paul Morosi reports Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said he's fairly optimistic SP Dontrelle Willis (anxiety) will pitch this season. The Tigers purchase disability insurance on long-term player contracts, and it's believed that they did so when Willis signed a three-year, $29-million extension in December 2007.
