The Detroit Tigers extended the contracts of general manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland Monday, Aug. 8. Dombrowski agreed to a four-year contract extension through the 2015 season, and Leyland reached an agreement that extends him through the 2012 season. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said that the club may attempt to add more offensive firepower before the beginning of the season, according to George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press. "Most of our positional spots are set, in the sense that if you had to open the season, I'd feel comfortable in that regard," he said. "But if there was an area we're going to address, it would be an offensive perspective. I don't know if anything will happen or not." Dombrowski added that the team is not currently looking to add pitching.

The Detroit Free Press' Jon Paul Morosi reports Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said he's fairly optimistic SP Dontrelle Willis (anxiety) will pitch this season. The Tigers purchase disability insurance on long-term player contracts, and it's believed that they did so when Willis signed a three-year, $29-million extension in December 2007.

Detroit Tigers RP Joel Zumaya (shoulder) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, due to a sore right shoulder, according to The Associated Press. The move is retroactive to Friday, March 27. "He feels good, but we're also in a position where we do not want to rush him whatsoever," general manager Dave Dombrowski said. Zumaya will be limited to minor league appearances for the remainder of the spring.

The Detroit Tigers have placed SP Dontrelle Willis (anxiety) on the 15-day disabled list, due to an anxiety disorder, according to The Associated Press. However, Willis said he has felt fine on and off the mound. "(The doctors) didn't like what they saw in the blood," he said. "This is not something where I'm too amped up and I don't know where I'm at, and I'm running sprints up and down the parking lot." General manager Dave Dombrowski was unable to discuss details about his condition or treatment because of privacy regulations.
