The Baltimore Orioles signed free-agent SP Armando Galarraga (Diamondbacks) to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Pitchers that are still looking for work include free-agent SPs Brandon Webb (Rangers), Scott Kazmir (Angels), Armando Galarraga (Diamondbacks), Jon Garland (Dodgers), Rich Harden (Athletics), Clay Hensley (Marlins), Livan Hernandez (Nationals), Brad Penny (Tigers), Joel Pineiro (Angels), Jeff Francis (Royals), Zach Duke (Diamondbacks), Bartolo Colon (Yankees) and Tim Wakefield (Red Sox).

Major League Baseball has confirmed that umpire Jim Joyce is not allowed to work any series involving Arizona Diamondbacks SP Armando Galarraga after the two co-wrote a book about the near-perfect game Galarraga threw last season.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Armando Galarraga was to make his first Triple-A start with Reno Saturday, May 28, but the game against Sacramento was rained out. He made his first comments about his demotion beforehand. "This year, I had four bad starts," Galarraga said. "But the first three games I won. I didn't struggle the whole year. Nobody can say that. You win your first three games, you're good. Then I lost the next four and they want to send me down here. I don't think there's anything specific I need to work on. Whatever they say, I don't care."

The Boston Red Sox are considering free-agent SP Kevin Millwood (Yankees). However, reports are that his fastball was in the mid-80s when he pitched in the New York Yankees minor league system last month. Arizona Diamondbacks SP Armando Galarraga is another possibility.
