Twins | Joel Zumaya could be setup man

Minnesota Twins RP Joel Zumaya could share the setup duties with RP Glen Perkins this year. RP Matt Capps will serve as the Twins' closer. "We think (Zumaya) and Perkins will be pretty good," general manager Terry Ryan said. "That's what we were looking for." Zumaya can earn up to $1.7 million this season if he pitches in 60 games.

Minnesota Twins RP Matt Capps can make an extra $250,000 in 2012 for finishing 50, 55 and 60 games, and a $500,000 bonus for finishing 65 games. Capps will also make $250,000 for being an All-Star, $50,000 for being the ALCS Most Valuable Player and $100,000 for being World Series MVP.

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Tuesday, Nov. 22, that the team is interested in bringing back free-agent RP Matt Capps (Twins), potentially to compete for the closer's job. "Yeah, he'd be an option," Ryan said. "We know he had a difficult year last year, but he certainly was good two years ago."

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said the team is "probably going to be looking outside" the organization to replace RP Joe Nathan at closer. RP Glen Perkins is expected to remain in his role as a setup man. The team could also choose to re-sign Matt Capps. Free-agent RPs Ryan Madson (Phillies), Heath Bell (Padres) and Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers) are likely out of the Twins' price range.
