Giants | Angel Pagan could lead off against lefties

Wed, 20 May 2015 16:36:59 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan is likely to hit leadoff more often against left-handed pitchers, according to manager Bruce Bochy. In those instances, OF Justin Maxwell would fill in in left field for OF Nori Aoki.

Fantasy Tip: Such a move would essentially make Aoki ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) a platoon player in left field and kill much of his value in traditional leagues. Pagan ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) has fared well against southpaws this year, but a move to leadoff some of the time won't drastically affect his outlook at FantasyScore.

Giants | Nori Aoki out vs. southpaw

Wed, 20 May 2015 16:05:56 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Nori Aoki is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 20. OF Justin Maxwell is starting in left field and hitting fifth in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brett Anderson.

Fantasy Tip: All three of Maxwell's ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) home runs this year have come against right-handed pitchers, and he doesn't really move the needle all that much at FantasyScore. He's a very mediocre option tonight and shouldn't garner nearly as much attention as he's relegated to a fourth-outfield role.

Giants | Justin Maxwell hot of late

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 11:46:33 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Justin Maxwell homered in each of the two games over the weekend and is batting .308 with a 1.015 OPS in 39 at-bats this season, and manager Bruce Bochy said he'll keep playing Maxwell in right field until OF Hunter Pence (arm) returns. Maxwell could knock OF Norichika Aoki out of the lineup once Pence returns on occasion.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard not to want to sneak Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) into your FantasyScore lineups while he's on fire. Tonight is another one of those occasions, as he's facing Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed starter Brett Anderson.

Giants | Justin Maxwell remains in lineup

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:10:47 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field and hitting sixth in the batting order against Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has provided a spark for this offense in the last week, and he's started the last three games. He'll be an under-the-radar option at FantasyScore tonight, but it could pay off while starting at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Giants | Justin Maxwell with third straight start

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 10:43:48 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field Thursday, April 23, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of your cap) is making his third straight start over OF Gregor Blanco. Maxwell has an average .280-1-4 line leaves a bit to be desired in a low-end flyer on FantasyScore. Blanco is losing playing time and should be avoided altogether.

Giants | Gregor Blanco sitting vs. lefty

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 15:57:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 22. OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field and hitting fifth in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) broke through with a home run and triple in the team's win Tuesday night. He's a mediocre FantasyScore choice, at best, against Kershaw, though. Maxwell has hit just .236 (78-for-331) in his career against lefties.

Giants | Justin Maxwell batting seventh

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 17:30:07 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field and batting seventh for manager Bruce Bochy Tuesday, April 21, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600; 3.2% of cap) could be a cheap source of offense in FantasyScore, as it won’t take a lot of production to meet salary expectations. Plus, his inclusion in the lineup will allow you to load up on studs at other positions.

Giants | Gregor Blanco not playing

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:38:04 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Tyler Matzek Wednesday, April 15. OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field and hitting fifth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is in a favorable lineup position Wednesday night, but he's a low-end outfield option at FantasyScore. For his career, Maxwell is batting just .231 in 325 at-bats against southpaws.

Giants | Justin Maxwell wins job

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 22:38:11 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Justin Maxwell has won a spot on the team's opening day roster.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell tore the cover off the ball in Cactus League spring play, hitting .349. He could see occasional starts making him a sleeper FantasyScore option.

Giants | Brandon Belt to play some outfield?

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 16:27:05 -0700

San Francisco Giants 1B Brandon Belt is being discussed as an option to play the outfield in the absence of OF Hunter Pence (arm) and OF Angel Pagan (back), according to manager Bruce Bochy. If Belt plays in the outfield, it opens the possibility for C Buster Posey to play more first base. Backup Cs Hector Sanchez and Andrew Susac would get more time with Posey at first. Other outfield options include 1B Travis Ishikawa, OF Juan Perez, OF Justin Maxwell, INF Matt Duffy and 3B Adam Duvall.

Fantasy Tip: Belt is already a middle-round breakout candidate, and adding outfield eligibility would only further enhance his fantasy value.
