The Houston Astros have dismissed Sean Berry as hitting coach and replaced him with Jeff Bagwell, according to senior director of social media Alyson Footer. Berry has been offered another position within the organization and Bagwell will begin his new post Thursday, July 15.

Chris Duncan, of The Associated Press, reports Houston Astros hitting coach Sean Berry was back with the team Monday, June 1, after undergoing surgery Friday, May 8, to remove a kidney with a cancerous tumor. He visited doctors before heading to the ballpark, where the Astros opened a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies.

Updating previous reports, Houston Astros hitting coach Sean Berry underwent surgery Friday, May 8, to have a kidney with a cancerous tumor on it removed, according to The Associated Press. Dr. Richard Goldfarb performed the surgery at Methodist Hospital, taking out the right kidney. There will be no need for follow-up cancer treatments because the entire growth was removed.

The Associated Press reports Houston Astros hitting coach Sean Berry will hold the position for the rest of the season and will then be evaluated at the end, according to general manager Tim Purpura. Purpura said, "He brings a real fresh approach. He's very computer literate, very conversational with the hitters and has a real plan for hitting we hope to implement." Berry will take over Thursday, July 13, in Miami.
