Milwaukee Brewers C Angel Salome has requested to move to the outfield, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports. Salome was considered their top catching prospect but has been sent down a level to Class A Brevard County to begin his transition to the outfield.

Brewers | Angel Salome to have extended absence

Milwaukee Brewers minor league C Angel Salome, currently with Triple-A Nashville, recently left the team because of the birth of a child but is not ready to rejoin the team because he is "struggling mentally," according to assistant general manager Gord Ash. He is expected to report to the team's training facility in Phoenix next week and remain there until he is deemed ready to play again, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Tom Haudricourt, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Milwaukee Brewers C Jonathan Lucroy was promoted from Double-A Huntsville to Triple-A Nashville Wednesday, April 21. Lucroy was promoted to replace C Angel Salome (personal), who took his second leave of absence to be with his pregnant wife.

Updating previous items, The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers reports the Milwaukee Brewers apparently have decided not to re-sign C Jason Kendall. General manager Doug Melvin says he's going to look at less expensive alternatives in C prospects Jonathan Lucroy, Angel Salome and George Kottaras, who recently was claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

General manager Doug Melvin has indicated that C Jonathan Lucroy could be the team's part-time catcher next season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Lucroy has passed C Angel Salome as the team's top catching prospect.

Anthony Witrado, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Milwaukee Brewers C Angel Salome (back) was taken out of the game Saturday, March 14, after suffering from back spasms. He was evaluated Monday, March 16, and will remain sidelined. Salome will likely begin the season at Triple-A Nashville.
