Fri, 03 May 2013 13:53:30 -0700 Free-agent RP Brian Wilson (elbow) has been telling teams he won't even throw for them until he's fully recovered from Tommy John surgery, which means he won't return until at least the All-Star break. Fantasy Tip: Wilson could be added to a club that is in dire need of bullpen help around mid-summer, so don't completely forget about him in your fantasy league. Depending on the team he signs with, he could be valuable in all leagues.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 07:15:23 -0700 St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said the team isn't confident free-agent RP Brian Wilson (Giants) is closer to being healthy, but they're willing to explore anything. Fantasy Tip: That is concerning news about the former All-Star closer. Wilson had his second Tommy John surgery last season and is slow to recover.
Wed, 06 Mar 2013 12:31:15 -0800 Updating a previous item, free-agent RP Brian Wilson (elbow) is still rehabbing from his second Tommy John procedure and doesn't want to audition for teams until he's 100 percent healthy. He's currently throwing bullpen sessions at around "80 to 85 percent" intensity, which means he may not sign with a team until a few weeks into the season.
Fri, 08 Feb 2013 13:34:56 -0800 Free-agent RP Brian Wilson (elbow) is currently throwing off a mound three times a week and is close to 90 percent healthy, according to his agent, Dan Lozano. Wilson still expects to be ready by opening day, and Lozano said his client refuses to talk money with interested clubs until he's fully healthy. Four or five teams are interested in Wilson, but he isn't ready to listen to offers just yet.
Fri, 08 Feb 2013 12:00:24 -0800 San Francisco Giants general manager Brian Sabean said the team and free-agent RP Brian Wilson (Giants) are still far apart in negotiations. Wilson wants more guaranteed money and the Giants prefer to give him more incentives.
Wed, 06 Feb 2013 23:32:24 -0800 San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy believes free-agent CL Brian Wilson may be back with the team someday once he makes a full recovery from his second Tommy John surgery.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 12:06:52 -0800 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco's hold on the closer role heading into spring training is not firm, with the club looking for more bullpen help after adding RPs Scott Atchison and LaTroy Hawkins recently. The remaining options for the Mets are free-agent RP Jose Valverde (Tigers), Brian Wilson (Giants), Brandon Lyon (Blue Jays) and Francisco Rodriguez (Brewers). Valverde and Rodriguez are both represented by Scott Boras, and New York has made it clear that they won't overpay for another bullpen piece. General manager Sandy Alderson has made it clear that he is not committed to using Francisco as the primary closer this season. Alderson even went as far as saying he isn't "terribly comfortable" with Francisco being the opening day closer. Fantasy Tip: Clearly, the Mets aren't happy with settling for Francisco as their closer for the year. All indications are that they will create as much competition for the ninth-inning role in spring training as possible. Whether it be Bobby Parnell, Hawkins or an outside candidate, the role won't be defined anytime soon. Consider Francisco a low-end closing option in your draft, and if you wind up with him on your roster, it would be smart to handcuff him to another closing option in New York's bullpen.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 10:23:50 -0800 Free-agent RP Brian Wilson (elbow) threw only 20 pitches with low velocity when he auditioned for the New York Mets last month in California, and he doesn't appear to be ready to return from Tommy John surgery just yet.
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 07:03:45 -0800 The New York Mets are unlikely to sign free-agent RP Brian Wilson (Giants).
Sun, 27 Jan 2013 09:11:24 -0800 New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the club plans to visit free-agent RP Brian Wilson (Giants) soon to watch him throw a second time.
