Astros | Scott Feldman to start Tuesday

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 23:52:11 -0700

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman will make the spot start Tuesday, June 28, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in place of the injured SP Lance McCullers (finger).

Fantasy Tip: Feldman might be a decent low-end DFS play, as his price tag will be low and allow you to load up on high-priced offensive talent using a high-low strategy. His exposure might not be high, either, making him a nice play.

Astros | Lance McCullers scratched from start

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 17:43:56 -0700

Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers (blister) has been scratched from his start Tuesday, June 28, due to the early development of a blister. SP/RP Scott Feldman will make the start in his place opposite the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Fantasy Tip: McCullers has already missed the majority of the campaign due to injury, so the team probably wants to be cautious with one of the key cogs in their starting rotation. Although the Angels have the second-fewest home runs in the American League, Feldman isn't an ideal streaming option due to his struggles earlier this season when he was in the rotation.

Astros | Scott Feldman so-so in start

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 22:51:54 -0700

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman allowed five runs - three earned - and eight hits with four walks over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Sunday, April 24, against the Boston Red Sox.

Fantasy Tip: Feldman really struggled, throwing just 60 of his 103 pitches for strikes while recording just 13 outs. He is still worth using in AL-only play, deeper mixed formats and DFS, but he should be saved for more favorable matchups against lesser lineups.

Red Sox | Ryan Hanigan behind the plate

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 16:52:09 -0700

Boston Red Sox C Ryan Hanigan will bat eighth against Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman Sunday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Hanigan is hitting just .133 in six games this year, and he isn't worth rostering in daily formats.

Astros | Houston's rotation competition

Thu, 03 Mar 2016 12:08:33 -0800

Houston Astros SPs Mike Fiers, Scott Feldman and Doug Fister are competing for the final two rotation spots this spring. Feldman and Fister are making a combined $15 million this year, which might make Fiers the odd-man out, even after he threw a no-hitter in 2015. Feldman's sprained right shoulder ended his 2015 season, but he said he's feeling better than ever this year.

Fantasy Tip: Fister's drop in velocity and inability to continue to induce plenty of ground balls hurts his fantasy value heading into 2016 in a much more dangerous hitter's park. Feldman's injuries make him even more of a risk. Fiers has the most upside of the bunch and is a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues for his strikeout abilities.

Astros | Scott Feldman ready for spring training

Mon, 01 Feb 2016 14:12:15 -0800

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman (shoulder) said he should be 100% when pitchers and catchers report to camp Thursday, Feb. 18. "Playing catch and throwing, I feel better than I have in years," Feldman added.

Fantasy Tip: Feldman is likely on the outside looking in at a rotation spot, and even should he be in the starting five, he is nothing more than a low-end option in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues. Over the past three seasons, Feldman has a 3.83 ERA, a 4.13 FIP, a 1.25 WHIP and a 5.7 K/9, which hardly moves the fantasy needle.

Astros | Scott Feldman rehab update

Sun, 24 Jan 2016 07:06:28 -0800

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman (shoulder) said that he has been going through his normal offseason conditioning program. He has been playing catch for several weeks and is expected to resume throwing bullpen sessions early next month prior to the opening of spring training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Feldman, who went 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 18 starts last season, is recovering from a sprained right shoulder and also missed time in 2015 due to arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. He could be worth a late-round flier in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues, although he is not guaranteed to begin the season in the starting rotation.

Astros | Scott Feldman done for the year

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 10:35:16 -0700

Houston Astros SP Scott Feldman (shoulder) was diagnosed with a sprained right shoulder, and he'll be shut down for the rest of the season. Feldman will start his rehab that will extend into the offseason. The Astros hope he is ready to pitch next season.

Fantasy Tip: You can drop Feldman ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) in deep leagues if you still owned him. There's no guarantee he'll be in the rotation next year for the Astros, so he won't be a candidate to draft in shallow mixed leagues.
