The Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick stopped practice Wednesday, Aug. 2, to give a stern lecture to the team after S B.J. Ward delivered several cheap shots during practice. Wards also nearly got into a fight with TE Daniel Wilcox. Billick grabbed Ward's jersey and chastised him. "I apologized to coach Billick. I understand what he wants me to do," said Ward.

Ward put some hits on WR Devard Darling, as well as TEs Quinn Sypniewski and Daniel Wilcox. Ward put two hits on Wilcox, with the second hit prompting a reaction from Wilcox. When Ravens head coach Brian Billick confronted Ward, the safety was benched for the remainder of practice. "I think he learned some things today that are going to be very important," Billick later said of Ward. "I don't think he has any mistake in what it was I was saying to him."

Sapp has the most playing experience in the battle for the free safety spot even though he has just two starts. He will compete against S Dawan Landry (a fifth-round pick), S B.J. Ward, S Jamaine Winborne and S Robb Butler. Sapp will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2006 season.
