The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals offensive line coach Steve Loney said the team will decide on their new starting right tackle by next week's preseason opener. OL Fred Wakefield is competing for the job with OT Jeremy Bridges. The player who does not get the job will be a backup at guard and tackle.

The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals OT Oliver Ross' (knee) knee injury has been diagnosed as a probable torn meniscus. Head coach Dennis Green said, "We should be concerned. We don't want to lose a starting player at this particular time. If that happens, then we have to look to see how we can replenish it either with [OL] Fred Wakefield or [OT] Jeremy Bridges off our team or we'll have to go get one from somebody else's team." Ross will be out for up to 10 weeks if he undergoes surgery. Wakefield and Bridges are splitting time at right tackle during practice.

Updating previous reports, the Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals ORT Oliver Ross (knee) could be sidelined up to 10 weeks with a knee injury. Head coach Dennis Green said Ross may have torn his meniscus. The club was awaiting test results. "We'll just have to see what's going to take place," Green said. "They can get a little more examination of the information and make a decision on him." Green said OL Fred Wakefield could replace Ross in the lineup.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green likes what he sees in DL Fred Wakefield and will likely name him the starter at left defensive end, reports AZCardinals.com. "Fred Wakefield is a guy who was not drafted and is probably as good as anyone," Green said. "His size gives him a tremendous advantage and he works very hard. I don't think anybody who has ever watched (him) play that didn't think he was a hard working guy on the football field. I think he'll be able to go out and earn that spot at left end."
