New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (shoulder) said he's ready to come off the disabled list and start against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, Aug. 11. Niese thinks he can throw 95 pitches in his first outing back, and the team will continue going with a six-man rotation when he returns. "I'm going to do a lot more rotator-cuff exercises, shoulder exercises, keeping it stronger, obviously to help prevent anything like this happening again," Niese said. "... It will eventually heal, they told me. That's probably something where the time this offseason will take to heal it. As for now, it's pretty much just keeping it strong, keeping the inflammation down. So far, so good."

New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (shoulder) allowed two runs and four hits while striking out six and walking three in five innings for Double-A Binghamton in his final rehab start Tuesday, Aug. 6. He threw 51 of his 80 pitches for strikes. He's likely to be activated from the disabled list to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks Sunday, Aug. 11.
Fantasy Tip: Niese is probably widely available in most mixed formats because of the way he was pitching before his injury. He deserves to be rostered in NL-only leagues now that he's back, but you can hold off elsewhere, for now.

New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (shoulder) is starting a rehab assignment in the minor leagues, and he'll make two more rehab starts before he thinks he'll be ready to return. Manager Terry Collins thinks Niese is "a little ways away yet," though. Over the weekend, he allowed two earned runs in two innings in the Gulf Coast League. He will pitch again for Single-A St. Lucie Aug. 1.

The New York Mets are looking to limit SP Matt Harvey's (finger) innings limit this year without shutting him down for the season. Harvey's blister on his finger looked much better Tuesday, July 9, but there's still a chance that the team uses SP Carlos Torres in his place against the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, July 13, in his place. The team will not use a six-man rotation once SP Jonathon Niese (shoulder) returns from the disabled list. Harvey could be shut down at around 220 innings this year.
Fantasy Tip: Right now might be the best time to sell high on Harvey while you still can in redraft leagues before the Mets start limiting his innings in the second half.

New York Mets SP Carlos Torres is likely to replace SP Shaun Marcum (hand) in the starting rotation until SP Jonathon Niese (shoulder) returns from the disabled list.
Fantasy Tip: There is no timetable for Niese to return, so Torres could be in the rotation for a while, assuming he pitches effectively enough. However, he's still probably only worth looking at in NL-only universes.
