Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese is a player that the New York Mets are open to adding in a trade, but are not pursuing a trade at this point, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: Niese has struggled so far this season and has been moved to the bullpen. He probably would join the starting rotation if he is traded to the Mets but would not be more than an NL-only option.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese has been moved to the bullpen following a first half Niese said was the "worst of my career."
Fantasy Tip: This is not what the Pirates wanted to see when trying to use Niese as a bargaining chip. He still might get traded, but Niese's trading power just went down now that he isn't even starting. Until he regains his stroke on the pitchers mound, stay away.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Tyler Glasnow isn't listed as a scheduled starter for Class AAA Indianapolis after the All-Star break, and the team is trying to deal SP Jon Niese or SP Jeff Locke to open a spot for him in the Pirates' rotation.
Fantasy Tip: Glasnow has a ton of potential and should be held onto in traditional formats if possible. At worst, he'll make a few starts in the minors before returning when rosters expand in September.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese gave up five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings Sunday, July 10, in a 6-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs. He did not get the decision in this game, but Niese has lost five of his past six starts. He is now 7-7 after beginning the season 6-2.
Fantasy Tip: This is not what Pittsburgh wanted to see as it attempts to trade Niese or use him as bait to attract other players. Until Niese straightens himself out, he should be left on your bench in NL and mixed leagues and not considered for DFS.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are actively shopping SP Jon Niese on the trade market, according to multiple industry sources. The Pirates expect at least a couple of scouts at Niese's next start against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, July 10. He's in the final year of his extension but has two club options remaining, and he's making $9 million in 2016. Pittsburgh is unlikely to pick up either of Niese's options.
Fantasy Tip: This makes total sense with Pittsburgh possessing several highly touted pitching prospects that are beginning to make their presence felt at the major league level. Niese is 7-6 with a 4.87 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 6.2 K/9 in 17 starts. In fantasy, he's a very mediocre pitcher without a swing-and-miss profile, and he's purely a matchup play in NL-only leagues.
