Fri, 17 May 2013 16:24:08 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese said he unconsciously dropped his arm angle early this year due to arm discomfort, which led to poor results. Niese tried to fix the issue with a 70-plus pitch bullpen session Monday, May 13. He held the St. Louis Cardinals to two runs and six hits while walking two in 7 1/3 innings Thursday, May 16, after giving up 15 runs in 8 1/3 innings in his previous two starts. "I tried to keep my arm in that good arm slot and it worked out today," Niese said about throwing from a higher arm angle. "… I'm just glad (pitching coach) Dan (Warthen) and I were able to get that good work in the bullpen and figure out what was going wrong mechanically. Fortunately, I was able to fix it."
Wed, 15 May 2013 20:36:04 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese spent the week refining his mechanics in front of a weight room mirror, trying to keep his body tall and on a straight line. Those were the issues that he considered crucial to his recent struggles, resulting in 15 runs over his past two starts. "Whenever I had free time, I just stepped in front of a mirror and went through my mechanics, and made sure everything's on line," Niese said Wednesday, May 15. "I can feel when it's right."
Mon, 13 May 2013 06:27:14 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (neck) has been pitching through a neck ailment that may have altered his arm slot and caused him to lose velocity. The issue flared up after his start April 28. He has allowed 15 runs in two starts since then.
Sun, 12 May 2013 10:26:52 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (2-4) allowed eight runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Saturday, May 11. The eight runs allowed were a career high and it was the fourth time in eight outings this season that he walked more batters (three) than he struck out (one).
Thu, 09 May 2013 17:20:22 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (back) disagreed with manager Terry Collins' assessment that Niese pitched with a stiff back in his last start. Niese said he did have a back issue but does not think it affected his performance. Niese has struck out 20 batters and walked 19 in 36 2/3 innings this season.
Sat, 04 May 2013 10:53:55 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese will start against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, May 5, instead of SP Matt Harvey. Both pitchers had their starts pushed back because of inclement weather that postponed the game Saturday, May 4.

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 10:53:26 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (ankle), who was hit by a comebacker in the ankle Tuesday, April 23, felt good enough to throw Thursday, April 25, and he said he's feeling fine. Fantasy Tip: Expect Niese to make his next scheduled start.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 19:58:16 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (leg) had X-rays on his lower right leg Tuesday, April 23, and the tests came back negative. He was diagnosed with a lower right leg contusion.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 17:00:40 -0700 New York Mets SP Jonathon Niese (leg) was in the lower right leg by a comebacker in his start Tuesday, April 23, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was helped off the field, and was in obvious pain, according to reports. Fantasy Tip: There will be more details on Niese's injury later, but this is clearly not how Niese, or his fantasy owners, wanted to start what looked to be a promising week. If you're in daily leagues, reserve him going forward.
