Fri, 16 Mar 2012 13:10:09 -0700 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said SPs Garrett Richards, Trevor Bell, Jerome Williams, Eric Hurley and Brad Mills are vying for the fifth rotation spot this spring. "The thing about competition is there isn't any such thing as a front-runner," Scioscia said. "You've got to go out there and earn it every step of the way, and that's what we hope one of these five guys do to make our decisions easy."
Fri, 02 Mar 2012 14:43:26 -0800 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jerome Williams (hamstring) felt tightness in his left hamstring during defensive drills Friday, March 2, and he will be re-evaluated Saturday, March 3. "I think this year we're going to have much better matchups on a daily basis. They all fit in; they all fit in. They're all going to be important to us. It's just impossible to say what the pecking order is, because the pecking order is going to change on a daily basis anyway." RPs Trevor Bell, Bobby Cassevah, LaTroy Hawkins, Kevin Jepsen and Rich Thompson will all be valuable members of the bullpen.
Sun, 19 Feb 2012 17:36:29 -0800 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim managed Mike Scioscia said Sunday, Feb. 19, that the competition for the fifth starter spot in the rotation is an "open competition." SP Jerome Williams, who is out of options, has been considered the odds-on favorite for the job. However, SP Garrett Richards is also in the mix, along with SPs Trevor Bell, Eric Hurley, Brad Mills and Matt Shoemaker. "There's hopefully going to be a depth chart that's going to be very tangible when we get to the end of spring training," Scioscia said. "Right now, there's no sense ranking them, because you never know what spring training brings." |
