The San Diego Padres released the contract terms of the players they signed to avoid arbitration Tuesday, Jan. 17; RP Joe Thatcher ($700,000), C John Baker ($750,000), 3B Chase Headley ($3.475 million), OF Carlos Quentin ($7.025 million), C Nick Hundley ($2 million), RP Luke Gregerson ($1.55 million), SP Edinson Volquez ($2.2375 million), OF Will Venable ($1.475 million) and SP Tim Stauffer ($3.2 million).

The San Diego Padres avoided arbitration with C Nick Hundley, C John Baker, 3B Chase Headley, SP Tim Stauffer and RP Joe Thatcher Tuesday, Jan. 17, by signing all of them to one-year deals. Baker will make $750,000 and Thatcher will earn $700,000. Financials of the other deals were not disclosed.

San Diego Padres RP Joe Thatcher (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Sunday, July 17, with Class A Lake Elsinore. "This is really, in a way, his Spring Training," manager Bud Black said. "I don't want to put a number on it, but he's going to make a number of appearances." Thatcher had surgery May 2 to shave down his frayed labrum and rotator cuff and also to remove the bursa sac in his left shoulder.

San Diego Padres RP Joe Thatcher (shoulder) threw 25-30 pitches during his most recent bullpen session Friday, July 8. It was the first time he had thrown breaking balls since being placed on the disabled list. He is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Sunday, July 10, and could face live hitters Wednesday, July 13.
