Updating a previous report, the Arizona Cardinals signed CB Antonio Cromartie to a one-year deal worth $3.25 million. Cromartie can earn another $500,000 if he is able to play in every game in 2014.

The Arizona Cardinals could use CB Antonio Cromartie, who is expected to line up opposite CB Patrick Peterson, to cover opposing tight ends next year. Opposing tight ends accounted for 17 of the 29 touchdowns that Cardinals' opponents scored in 2013. Cromartie, however, lined up in the slot in 16 of 127 career games. CB Jerraud Powers could fill in at nickel and slot until CB Tyrann Mathieu (knee) returns.

The New York Jets could find themselves more than $40 million under the salary cap, if they release QB Mark Sanchez, WR Santonio Holmes and CB Antonio Cromartie, as expected. Letting Cromartie go would free up $9.5 million of cap space, releasing Holmes would free up $8.25 million and getting rid of Sanchez would give the team $8.3 million if he is not designated as a "June 1" cut. Sanchez's $2 million roster bonus is not due until March 25.

Cromartie quickly said "'we' doesn't include me." His comments could land him in stage one of the substance-abuse program. WR Randy Moss nearly landed in the program when he said in an interview with Bryant Gumbel that he smokes marijuana "every blue moon."

"I think I (will be)," Cromartie said. "Just because my cap number is very high. And I had one of the worst seasons of my career this past year. I was banged up. I got hurt in Week 2, but that's not an excuse. I just had a bad year. That falls heavily on me and no one else."

New York Jets CB Antonio Cromartie (hip) might need to undergo offseason surgery on his right hip that has bothered him this year. "Hopefully there's nothing that's too serious," Cromartie said. "Hopefully I don't have to have surgery, or if it is, it's something that's a cleanup job and easy to come by and go from there." He thinks there's a connection between his fractured hip in 2008 and his hip injury this season. Cromartie plans to visit with hip specialists after the season is over.

He practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Dec. 12, wearing a non-contact jersey. Cromartie currently is going through the concussion protocol and doesn't have any symptoms. He'll have to be fully cleared before playing this weekend.

Cromartie said his hip is bothering him more this year than it has since 2008 when he fractured the same hip. He ran during position drills Friday, Nov. 29, and rode a stationary bike. Also to be game-time decisions will be WR Jeremy Kerley (elbow), LB Garrett McIntyre (knee) and WR Santonio Holmes (hamstring). Holmes' right hamstring has been acting up this week, and Ryan said he is concerned for Holmes.
