Royals | Jonathan Broxton moving on

Fri, 13 Apr 2012 10:51:10 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Jonathan Broxton said he has already moved on from his first blown save with the team Wednesday, April 11, in which he walked two, hit two batters and allowed two runs. Manager Ned Yost still has confidence in Broxton and is sticking with him as his closer. "I talked to Broxton today, and he just lost command of his fastball," Yost said. "But he's a two-time All-Star, and he has really rebounded nicely from this arm surgery. He's got his velocity back up to 97, 98, with an 86-, 87-mph slider, which is a killer, hard slider."

Royals | Jonathan Broxton officially named closer

Thu, 05 Apr 2012 16:54:48 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost officially named RP Jonathan Broxton as the team's closer Thursday, April 5. "It's not going to be a tandem," Yost said. "Broxton is coming in if we have a save situation (Friday) in the ninth inning. If we have a save situation in the eighth inning, (Greg) Holland is coming in, and then we're going to turn it over to Broxton." However, Yost wants to refrain from using Broxton three consecutive days, so if that's the case, RP Greg Holland will receive an opportunity. RPs Aaron Crow, Tim Collins, Kelvin Herrera and Jose Mijares will be used earlier in games. RP Everett Teaford will serve as the long man out of the bullpen.

Royals | Ned Yost not in rush to name replacement closer

Mon, 02 Apr 2012 06:27:04 -0700

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost sees no need to name a specific replacement at closer with RP Joakim Soria (elbow) out for the season. Yost also said RP Jonathan Broxton won't pitch three days in a row initially. He's also likely limited to one-inning outings.

Fantasy Tip: That likely means Greg Holland and even Aaron Crow could sneak in a few saves on days Broxton can't pitch.
