Tue, 18 Jun 2013 19:53:51 -0700 The Houston Astros acquired P Charles Basford from the New York Yankees Tuesday, June 18, from the New York Yankees for OF Fernando Martinez.
Sun, 12 May 2013 10:42:32 -0700 Updating a previous report, Houston Astros OF Fernando Martinez has cleared waivers and will be outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Mon, 06 May 2013 15:14:24 -0700 The Houston Astros activated OF J.D. Martinez (knee) from the disabled list and recalled OFs Trevor Crowe and Jimmy Paredes from the minors Monday, May 6. In corresponding moves, OFs Rick Ankiel and Fernando Martinez were designated for assignment. Fantasy Tip: Houston clearly wasn't going to put up with Ankiel's all-or-nothing style of offensive production, which usually resulted more in nothing than anything. It's unclear exactly how Crowe, Paredes and J.D. Martinez will be utilized in the outfield alongside Brandon Barnes and Chris Carter. Martinez probably has the most upside of the three, though, but he's not worth spending any money on just yet in mixed leagues.
Sun, 21 Apr 2013 11:21:00 -0700 The Houston Astros have placed OF J.D. Martinez (knee) on the 15-day disabled list because of a sprained right knee. In a corresponding move, OF Fernando Martinez (oblique) has been activated from the disabled list.
Thu, 18 Apr 2013 12:18:05 -0700 Houston Astros OF Fernando Martinez (oblique) is scheduled to play in at least one game with Triple-A Oklahoma City Thursday, April 18, and he could return from the disabled list soon. RP Travis Blackley (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Oklahoma City Thursday, as well. Fantasy Tip: Martinez should be on the radar of AL-only leaguers. The Astros have plenty of inexperience and inconsistency in their current stable of outfielders, so Martinez could receive an opportunity upon his return and run with it. However, he needs to make more consistent contact to deliver on his power skills.
Sat, 30 Mar 2013 18:19:01 -0700 The Houston Astros have placed OF Fernando Martinez (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained oblique. The move is retroactive to March 27.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 13:21:24 -0700 Houston Astros OF Fernando Martinez (oblique) was scratched from the lineup Thursday, March 28, and he could start the season on the disabled list. His back tightened up earlier in camp, and he'll head to Houston to be looked at by a doctor Friday, March 29. Martinez said he thinks it's his left oblique muscle. Fantasy Tip: It would be a surprise if Martinez didn't begin on the DL with this injury. If it is indeed an oblique injury, they are usually tricky and require plenty of rest and recovery.
Mon, 25 Mar 2013 12:30:32 -0700 Houston Astros SPs Brad Peacock and Alex White, RP Xavier Cedeno, INF Matt Dominguez, C Carlos Corporan and OFs Justin Maxwell, Brandon Barnes, Chris Carter and Fernando Martinez were told that they have made the roster. Ps Jose Valdez and Kevin Chapman, INFs Brandon Laird and Jose Martinez and C Rene Garcia will be sent to the minors. P Chia-Jen Lo was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Fri, 22 Mar 2013 12:33:52 -0700 Houston Astros SP Edgar G. Gonzalez (leg) is feeling better after being hit by a comebacker on the back of his lower left leg Thursday, March 21. 1B Brett Wallace (neck) said he had no issues after leaving the game early Thursday with a pinched nerve in his neck and upper back. OF Fernando Martinez (back) hasn't played in a few days with tightness in his lower back, but he took batting practice Thursday and hopes to get into a game this weekend. He's hitting .333 with one homer and five RBIs in 24 at-bats in camp.
