Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester noted that he has refined his mechanics to stand taller on the mound, revealing that he started making an effort to correct his posture late last summer. "I was pitching like a guy who was 5-foot-10 as opposed to 6-foot-4," Lester said. "It makes a big difference on the way the ball comes in the zone."
Fantasy Tip: Lester finished spring with a 0.75 ERA, 20 strikeouts and four walks in 30 frames, including a minor league contest. He's an attractive middle-rounds value play in mixed leagues with top-shelf upside.

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester is expected to start the team's opening day game April 1 against the New York Yankees. He threw 100 innings in a spring outing Friday, March 22, allowing two runs and striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Lester has given up only two runs and six hits while walking four and striking out 16 in 20 spring innings. His biggest success has been keeping the ball down in the zone.
Fantasy Tip: If his spring results are any indication, Lester could re-emerge as a pitching force this year, and he'll come at the price of a No. 3 starter in fantasy drafts. His increased tempo on the bump might be the key to his rejuvenation.

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester, who is vying for the team's Opening Day assignment, worked six perfect innings in a Grapefruit League spring start Sunday, March 17. He left the start after 79 pitches and six strikeouts. "I had a pretty good idea," Lester said of the perfect game. "I pitched the whole time in the wind-up."
Fantasy Tip: Lester has allowed just two runs in 20 innings during the spring, which equates to a 0.90 ERA. He appears to be ready for the regular season, and could re-emerge as a fantasy stud if he continues to pitch this well. He has looked healthy, and that is the key.

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester looked sharp while giving up only two hits in his four innings of work Wednesday, March 6, and he's now given up only one run on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks in three spring outings (nine innings). "From each work session, to what he's able to do inside the game," manager John Farrell said of Lester. "I think today showed the ability to make some adjustments from pitch to pitch even with the back to back walks in the one inning. I think he's more in tune with his delivery mechanics that allows him to make those adjustments."

Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester, who has taken the legal anti-inflammatory drug Toradol "quite a bit," said the team is reviewing its policy on the use of the drug after concerns have been raised about its harmful side effects. "It's good they're looking into it," Lester said. "As players, though, we just think it's a bigger Advil, a stronger Advil. But I think it's nice to know our organization cares about us long term and wants to nip this thing in the bud."
