The Miami Marlins optioned OF Bryan Peterson to Triple-A New Orleans Thursday, March 29, and assigned P J.D. Martin and INF Nick Green to minor league camp. OF Aaron Rowand was released. OFs Chris Coghlan and Austin Kearns look to have spots on the 25-man roster.

The Miami Marlins have announced that 22 players, including 11 organizational players, have received invitations to major league spring training camp. Ps Jose Alvarez, Robert Delaney, Chad Gaudin, Gary Glover, Chad James, Corey Madden, J.D. Martin, Rob Rasmussen, Robert Ray, Alejandro Ramos and Elih Villanueva, Cs Jake Jefferies, Luke Montz, Clint Sammons and Kyle Skipworth, INFs Nick Green, Donovan Solano, Terry Tiffee and Gil Velazquez and OFs Kyle Jensen and Aaron Rowand will participate in camp.

Martin, Luis Atilano and Josh Wilkie; Cs Carlos Maldonado and Jhonathan Solano; IF Michael Aubrey and Kevin Barker and OFs Jeff Frazier and Jonathan Van Every to Triple-A Syracuse Friday, March 11, according to The Washington Post's Adam Kilgore. Ps Garrett Mock and Adam Carr were also optioned to Syracuse.

Washington Nationals SP J.D. Martin (back) will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a bulging disc in his lower back Tuesday, Aug. 10, in Los Angeles, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson. He expects to be ready by spring training.

Washington Nationals SP J.D. Martin (back) received an epidural to relieve some of the pain in his back and is hoping he'll only miss 15 days, MASNSports.com's Ben Goessling reports. The problem is that his two bulging discs are pinching nerves and causing pain in his legs. There are three shots Martin could get to relieve the pain, and if that doesn't work, surgery might come into play.
