Wed, 15 May 2013 14:49:11 -0700 San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal will leave extended spring training and report to Triple-A Tucson Saturday, May 18, and he's eligible to come off the restricted list May 28 after being suspended for the first 50 games of the season. "He feels good, everything is solid, offensively and defensively," general manager Josh Byrnes said recently. "We will get him ready to play in those games and evaluate where he is and where our roster is." C John Baker is hitting only .115 and will likely be optioned to the minors to make room for Grandal. Fantasy Tip: Grandal looked good in his major league audition last year, but the PED suspension makes us question how much of his production was actually real. It's unclear how much time he'll split with Nick Hundley, too. It's time to snatch him up in NL-only leagues if he's out there, but you can probably wait on him in mixed formats.
Wed, 15 May 2013 10:33:50 -0700 San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal will join Triple-A Tucson on Saturday, May 18, to begin the permissible 10-day rehab assignment before his 50-game suspension for a positive test for performance-enhancing substance ends on May 28. Fantasy Tip: Grandal posted a .297/.394/.469 slash line in 60 games for the Pads in 2012, but there has to be some doubt about how he'll perform once he returns given the numbers of others after they've been popped. Nick Hundley (.259/.314/.426) has been adequate, as well, not to mention vocal about his feelings regarding Grandal's possible impact on his job. This should be interesting. Grandal warrants ownership in deep leagues, still, because he's young and presumably still quite talented.
Mon, 11 Mar 2013 14:12:40 -0700 San Diego Padres C Nick Hundley has 11 hits in 23 at-bats heading into Monday, March 11, as he focuses on being more loose at the plate this year. He also has a .783 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.283. His hands are lower this spring and his path to the ball is more direct.
Thu, 08 Nov 2012 14:05:00 -0800 San Diego Padres Cs Nick Hundley and John Baker are likely to head into next season as the starting catchers now that C Yasmani Grandal will have to serve a 50-game suspension from the start of the season. "We still have Hundley and Baker. We have decent coverage there," general manager Josh Byrnes said. "Hundley had knee surgery at the end of the year. He's feeling good. Hopefully he'll be full go in spring training."

Thu, 27 Sep 2012 23:19:23 -0700 San Diego Padres C Yasmani Grandal was scheduled to start his 48th game at catcher Thursday, Sept. 27, against the Los Angeles Dodgers. If he starts two more games behind the plate, the Padres will be the first major league team since 1900 to have three catchers start 50 or more games. C Nick Hundley started 56 games. C John Baker has started 50. C Eddy Rodriguez started the other two games behind the plate.

Mon, 27 Aug 2012 21:37:39 -0700 San Diego Padres C Nick Hundley (knee) will have surgery Wednesday, Aug. 29, to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Mon, 27 Aug 2012 15:22:04 -0700 The San Diego Padres moved C Nick Hundley (knee) to the 60-day disabled list Monday, Aug. 27.
Fri, 17 Aug 2012 16:04:15 -0700 The San Diego Padres activated C Yasmani Grandal (oblique) from the disabled list Friday, Aug. 17, and placed C Nick Hundley (knee) on the 15-day DL with a right knee contusion. Hundley's stint is retroactive to Aug. 16.
