Sat, 08 Jun 2013 12:38:39 -0700 San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (calf) left the game against the Colorado Rockies Friday, June 7, due to tightness in his right calf.
Fri, 17 May 2013 13:59:01 -0700 People with ties to the San Diego Padres are saying that it's "unlikely" that the team looks to seriously trade 3B Chase Headley this summer despite the fact that Headley isn't interested in discussing a contract extension until after the season. The Padres are believed to be seeking a five-year deal worth around $100 million, but their talks with Headley didn't get very far last winter. Headley will become a free agent after the 2014 season. The Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks had been interested in Headley in the past. Fantasy Tip: Teams will try to pry Headley away from SD this summer, you can be sure of that. However, the Padres prefer to keep Headley in the fold, so it'll take an offer that they can't refuse in order to give him up. This could get interesting.
Thu, 02 May 2013 11:57:55 -0700 San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley's agent, Jim Murray, said his client won't negotiate a long-term contract extension with the team during the season. The Padres have made it known that they intend to make Headley the highest-paid player in team history, but an impasse could lead the Padres to attempt to trade Headley, who is eligible for free agency after the 2014 season. "I don't want to get involved in saying exactly what it would take," Headley said. "We don't have anything set in stone. We're not trying to set a record. I'm looking to something that is fair to myself and the Padres." Fantasy Tip: If the Padres don't coax Headley into a deal before the July 31 trade deadline, expect San Diego to at least dangle Headley to see what they could receive for him. They have the luxury of being able to move Jedd Gyorko to third base if need be.
Thu, 02 May 2013 08:45:55 -0700 The San Diego Padres will offer 3B Chase Headley a franchise-record contract offer by midseason. The deal would likely average a salary of $15 million per year.
Tue, 23 Apr 2013 17:00:10 -0700 The San Diego Padres activated OF Carlos Quentin from the suspended list Tuesday, April 23. He was punished for eight games after his benches-clearing brawl with Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke April 11. He is batting cleanup behind 3B Chase Headley, and it is the first time the team has had both in the lineup together this season.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 15:40:48 -0700 The San Diego Padres activated 3B Chase Headley (thumb) from the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 17, and placed OF Cameron Maybin (wrist) on the DL in a corresponding move with a right wrist injury. Fantasy Tip: Get Headley back in your lineups. Maybin was off to a terribly slow start this year, and his wrist probably had something to do with it. In mixed leagues, you can probably cast him to the waiver wire, unless you plan on utilizing him in your DL spot.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 11:03:23 -0700 San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (thumb) will likely be in the team's clubhouse on Wednesday, April 17, but manager Bud Black is unsure that the third baseman will be activated from the disabled list for the finale of the series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which takes place that night. The skipper said Headley is close but didn't elaborate. It appears that the switch hitter finished his rehab assignment with Class A advanced Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, April 16, when he went 1-for-3 and played five innings at the hot corner. Headley was 3-for-12 on the assignment. It seems likely that if Headley isn't activated tonight, he will be for the series that begins Friday, April 18, against the San Francisco Giants. Fantasy Tip: This might be a little frustrating for Headley owners, but the Friars aren't in a hurry considering that Headley is returning a bit ahead of schedule. They have some roster issues to figure out. Headley may need some extra BP and a few days to get back in the swing of things, anyway.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013 13:50:45 -0700 San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (thumb) will play one more rehab game with Single-A Lake Elsinore Tuesday, April 16, and he's expected to return from the disabled list Wednesday, April 17. Fantasy Tip: Headley's return will bump Jedd Gyorko back to second base, meaning Alexi Amarista's playing time will drop significantly. Amarista will become a utility infielder and can back up Everth Cabrera at shortstop if he needs a breather.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 16:55:44 -0700 San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley (thumb) could return from the disabled list Tuesday, April 16. Fantasy Tip: Headley has progressed nicely in his rehab and is completely pain-free. This is great news for fantasy owners, and you'll want to get him back in your lineup as soon as he returns to major league action.
