The Montreal Gazette reports WR Agim Shabaj, not selected recently in the NFL supplemental draft, has decided to join the practice squad of the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL. He said on his personal web sites at least five NFL teams were pursuing him, but he still went undrafted.

Though Shabaj has extraordinary athletic ability, his Tuesday numbers weren't eye-popping. He was hand-timed in the 4.4/4.5-second range in his 40-yard dash on the track, ran through other timing and distance drills and caught passes from former Michigan State QB Damon Dowdell at the workout. Alex Abate, of the State News, reports former Michigan State WR Agim Shabaj anticipates he may be selected in the middle rounds of the NFL supplemental draft Thursday, July 14. "I'll go somewhere in the middle rounds, but I'm not really sure," Shabaj said. "There have been a lot of teams talking to me." Justin VanFulpen, Shabaj's agent, suggested that teams might work Shabaj in as a punt returner and then transition him to a possible wide receiver spot. Shabaj does not care what position he plays. "I am dangerous as a receiver and dangerous as a punt returner," he said. "I've always done both of them through high school and college."

Updating previous reports, the Detroit Free Press reports former Michigan State WR Agim Shabaj has been allowed to enter the NFL's supplemental draft. He was declared academically ineligible late last week after falling one credit short of eligibility, which would have allowed him to play for the Spartans this year and enter the NFL draft next year.

Alex Abate, of the State News, reports Michigan State WR Agim Shabaj has been declared ineligible for the 2005 college football season. This would have been his senior year at MSU, and Shabaj now faces the decision of either transferring to another school that is not in Division 1-A and playing there for a season or applying for the NFL supplemental draft.
