Rangers | Texas scouted Edinson Volquez

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 19:54:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez was scouted by the Texas Rangers Sunday, July 24, and general manager Jon Daniels said the injuries to Texas' rotation has forced the team to consider trading for "rental" players at the deadline.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez has been pitching well of late, but he would remain an AL-only option with a move to Texas.

Royals | Edinson Volquez pitching well

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 16:20:48 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez allowed one run on seven hits while walking three and striking out three over six innings in a no-decision against the Texas Rangers Sunday, July 24, and he has posted a 2.87 ERA during the stretch.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez has been pitching well enough to use in AL-only formats, but he isn't a must-own player by any means.

Royals | Edinson Volquez posts quality start

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 23:36:18 -0700

Kansas City SP Edinson Volquez allowed two earned runs, four hits and three walks with six strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision and quality start Monday, July 18, against the Cleveland Indians. He threw 75 of his 112 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez has posted a 6-3 record with a 4.25 ERA in 11 home starts and a 2-5 record with a 5.72 ERA in eight road outings. Keep that in mind when setting DFS lineup going forward.

Royals | Edinson Volquez good at home

Mon, 18 Jul 2016 14:02:21 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez is 6-2 with a 2.78 ERA in the 10 home starts he's made other than a bad one he had against the Houston Astros. He's gone at least six innings in three straight starts and has gone 1-1 with a 3.37 ERA in his last three starts since his rough outing against Houston. However, he's struggled against the Cleveland Indians, who he faces Monday, July 18, going 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA in three starts this year.

Fantasy Tip: The Tribe have been a daunting opponent for most pitchers this year, so Volquez is a midrange fantasy starter, at best, in all fantasy leagues this evening.

Royals | Edinson Volquez posts QS in win

Sat, 09 Jul 2016 19:37:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez allowed three earned runs, six hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings in a quality start and win against the Seattle Mariners Saturday, July 9. He threw 68 of his 91 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez hasn't been a high strikeout pitcher this season, and he has lasted longer than six innings just eight times in 19 outings. He remains useful in most AL-only fantasy formats and DFS play, and one terrible outing June 24 is the reason for his 4.86 ERA. If you take out the 11 runs he allowed in one inning in that start he has a 4.01 ERA.

Royals | Edinson Volquez rebounds nicely

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 21:56:52 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez scattered six hits over 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, June 29. He walked one and struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: What a difference a start makes. Last time out, Volquez allowed 11 earned runs in one inning -- a performance that launched his ERA from 4.12 to 5.15. This time, the veteran held a tough Cardinals lineup in check in a game that the Royals eventually won in extra innings. It's the second time Volquez held an opponent scoreless in his last four outings; unfortunately, he gave up 17 runs during the two starts in between. Until he shows more consistency he's a fringe option in deep mixed leagues.

Royals | Edinson Volquez gets lit up

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 21:33:14 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez yielded 12 runs -- 11 earned -- on eight hits and three walks in just one inning against the Houston Astros on Friday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Well, that escalated quickly. Volquez entered the game with a 4.12 ERA on the season, but by the time Ned Yost mercifully removed him it had ballooned all the way up to 5.15. Granted, it's only one start, but Volquez has been getting progressively worse each month in 2016. At this stage his value lies in AL-only leagues until further notice.

Royals | Edinson Volquez gets plenty of support

Sat, 18 Jun 2016 21:07:55 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez allowed five earned runs, eight hits and no walks with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a win Saturday, June 18, against the Detroit Tigers. He threw 67 of his 89 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez received plenty of support from his offense in this game. He has seven wins, but also a mediocre 4.12 ERA on the season. He remains a decent AL-only fantasy option and worth a look in deeper mixed formats and DFS play.

Royals | Edinson Volquez goes seven strong

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 23:29:29 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez allowed two hits and four walks over seven scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a win Monday, June 13, against the Kansas City Royals.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez entered 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in two June starts, including a loss in Cleveland June 3. Perhaps this quality start will get him back on track for his nervous fantasy owners.

Royals | Edinson Volquez suffers loss Wednesday

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 18:51:53 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez (5-6) allowed four runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, June 8, with two walks and five strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Volquez has allowed four runs or more in four of his last five starts while being unable to make it beyond the seventh inning in any of those appearances. He should be viewed as a risky play for his next outing against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday, June 14.
