Cubs | Kyle Schwarber to see time in outfield?

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 17:29:37 -0700

The Chicago Cubs may consider giving C Kyle Schwarber some playing time in the outfield once C Miguel Montero (thumb) returns from the disabled list, so that he can continue to receive at-bats at the major league level.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is off to a torrid start, batting .410 with three homers and 10 RBIs in his first 11 games. He should be owned in all fantasy formats. Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is expected to rest for approximately 10 days before being re-evaluated. If all goes well, he will be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly thereafter.

Cubs | Miguel Montero to rest for 2 weeks

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 16:17:41 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) visited a hand specialist recently, and the Cubs were informed Tuesday, July 21, he needs two more weeks of rest before being re-evaluated. Montero will need a rehab assignment after he's cleared, and C Kyle Schwarber is expected to be with the Cubs for an extended stint.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has been effective since his re-call, going 4-for-11 since rejoining the Cubs. He hasn't shown much of his power yet, but Schwarber is worth an add in deeper mixed leagues.

Cubs | Miguel Montero could miss considerable time

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 12:25:22 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) could miss up to six weeks after jamming his left thumb last weekend. C Kyle Schwarber will be recalled from Class AAA Iowa Friday, July 17, and he could spend much of the rest of the season with the Cubs. Schwarber went 8-for-22 with a home run in six games in June as the designated hitter. He was hitting a combined .323/.430/.591 with 16 home runs and 49 RBI in 75 games on the farm, and he was named the Futures Game Most Valuable Player earlier this week.

Fantasy Tip: Montero's ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) extended absence makes Schwarber that much more valuable in any leagues where he's still available. He won't be the everyday catcher in Chicago, but he could also be used in left field, and his power potential is extremely enticing to daily players, as well.

Cubs | Miguel Montero heading to DL

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 12:09:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) will be placed on the disabled list heading into the second half of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Only stash Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) in shallow mixed leagues if you have the room. There's no guarantee he'll be starting regularly when he returns if Kyle Schwarber continues to impress in the majors. Schwarber, the team's top prospect, had a nice showing in six games earlier this year and should now be owned in all formats, since he could have an extended stay as the team's starting catcher.

Cubs | Miguel Montero has thumb injury

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 12:04:32 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) is dealing with a thumb injury entering the second half of the season.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear exactly how serious Montero's ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) injury is, but it's serious enough that the Cubs will recall Kyle Schwarber from the minors tomorrow. Schwarber is the Cubs top prospect, and he showed his incredible power potential earlier this year as a designated hitter in interleague play. Schwarber should already be owned in all keeper and dynasty leagues, and he deserves a pickup in all other formats for his power stick, even if doesn't remain in the big leagues for very long again.

Cubs | Kyle Schwarber could be recalled

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 19:51:14 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Kyle Schwarber could be recalled if C Miguel Montero (thumb) has to go on the disabled list, manager Joe Maddon said Sunday, July 12.

Fantasy Tip: Schwarber has been crushing minor league pitching, and he went 8-for-22 in a brief stint with the Cubs earlier this year. If he is recalled, he should make a solid short-term source of cap relief at FantasyScore.

Cubs | Miguel Montero on the bench

Sun, 12 Jul 2015 08:19:56 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) is not in the starting lineup against Chicago White Sox SP Jose Quintana Sunday, July 12. C Taylor Teagarden will start at catcher and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is dealing with an injury, so owners should check on his status after the All-Star break. Teagarden ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) should not be a starting option on FantasyScore since he has gone only 1-for-8 since joining the team.

Cubs | Miguel Montero injured Saturday

Sat, 11 Jul 2015 15:52:10 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero (thumb) was injured Saturday, July 11, against the Chicago White Sox and left the game.

Fantasy Tip: It is not known how much time Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) will miss, so keep an eye on his status. David Ross ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) could be drafted for more duty, or Kyle Schwarber could be recalled.

Cubs | Miguel Montero sitting Friday

Fri, 10 Jul 2015 11:34:25 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero is not in the lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Carlos Rodon Friday, July 10. C Taylor Teagarden is starting and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Teagarden ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is 1-for-2 in his only game with the Cubs so far this year, and he's not typically known for his offense. Against a young and overpowering arm in Rodon, Teagarden should be ignored by daily gamers.

Cubs | Miguel Montero dropped in order

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 09:14:27 -0700

Chicago Cubs C Miguel Montero was dropped to seventh in the batting order in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Tuesday, July 7.

Fantasy Tip: Montero ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is likely dropped down in the order because he's facing a left-hander. He's hitting .286 (6-for-21) against southpaws in a small sample size this year with two of his 10 home runs. It's best to avoid him in this first game on FantasyScore.
