"It would be one thing if it was Chris McAlister or someone of that nature that you just say, 'We know what we've got, we know the long term,'" defensive coordinator Mike Nolan said. "We don't know that about Tommy. Tommy has to prove that to us. He's got to get healthy."

Starks sprained his knee in the first preseason game against the New York Jets, and McAlister hurt his ankle Tuesday in practice. Both are expected to be ready for the season opener. DT Tony Siragusa and DB Gary Baxter (knee) also will not play tomorrow. G Edwin Mulitalo and OT Jonathan Ogden are expected back in the lineup.
